HEYBURN – Edward George Engkraf, age 85, of Heyburn, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at his home with his family by his side.
Ed was born on April 29, 1927, in Rupert, Idaho, the son of Jacob Victor and Bertha Agnes (Schmidt) Engkraf. He received his education in Rupert and graduated from Rupert High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II and upon his honorable discharge held the rank of staff sergeant. He married Daisy Laney in 1947 and together they had three children, Sherrie, Randal and Rodney. They later divorced. On Sept. 9, 2009, Ed married Maurine Seal Smiley and joining their family were Maurine’s two children, Ted and Candy.
Ed was an extremely hard worker and had farmed, worked in heavy bridge construction, owned and operated a metal fabrication business, and also worked for the Titan Missile Complex in Warden, Washington, the Hanford Atomic Energy Site, and as president of North American Conveyor.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Rupert, the Veteran of Foreign Wars, and had served in the Coast Guard reserves. He loved fishing and hunting, his friends and family, and most recently enjoyed driving beet truck for the past several years. Most important is the fact that he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle – always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends, family or anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Maurine Smiley-Engkraf of Heyburn; his combined children, Sherrie (John) McCord of Longview, Washington, Randal Engkraf of Kansas City, Missouri, Rodney (Gayle) Engkraf of Castle Rock, Washington, Ted (Beverly) Severe of Riverton, Utah, and Candy (Buddy) Welsh of Wells, Nevada; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Victor (MaryAnn) Engkraf of Rupert, Betty (Ben) Burgess of Riverside, California, Ilene Myers (Richard Myers - deceased) of La Habra, California, and Anna Mae (Glen) Rogers of Rupert; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Agnes Engkraf; and a brother, Raymond Engkraf.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at the Pleasant View Cemetery, 1645 E. 16th St., in Burley, with the Rev. Father Justin Brady officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
