DECLO - Randy Kent Meade, 66, of Declo, Idaho, returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, while at his home in St. George, Utah.
Randy was born June 17, 1949, the second of four children born to parents Robert R. and Lucille (King) Meade in Burley, Idaho. He was raised in Declo in a hard-working farm family. Randy was a member of the Declo High School’s graduating class of 1968, subsequently earning his marketing degree from Idaho State University in 1973. Randy married in January of 1971, and was blessed with five children, Kirsten, Gavn, Symantha, Rachael, and Josh.
From a young age, Randy loved to work on the family farm and, after earning his degree, he returned to the town that he loved to farm with his dad. Randy loved farming and the quality of life it allowed him to provide for his family. Being able to work with and learn from his father was a blessing that was never taken for granted. Randy took great pride in his trade, earning many accolades, which included numerous awards for potato grower of the year. Randy’s farm always reflected his ability to grow great crops year in and year out, as well as his ambition and work ethic. “If you are going to do something, you might as well do it right.”
Randy was not only a great father, but also a great friend to many. In 2002, a friendship that was developed in college, was rekindled as the paths of Susie and Randy crossed on the way to ski at Pomerelle. Randy and Susie were married Feb.14, 2004, further blessing our family with daughters, Nicole, Tiffany, and Lani. Susie was the love of Randy’s life. The two were best of friends and inseparable. Being married to Susie blessed Randy with a different perspective on life. They were always on the go, enjoying golfing, road trips on the Goldwing, skiing, horseback riding and, most of all, attending all of the grandchildren’s recitals and sporting events. Randy loved his family and enjoyed those occasions when they could all be together at their home in Declo.
Randy developed friendships wherever the adventure took him. Although spending winters in St. George often meant time away from family, the friendships developed while golfing, created a home away from home for Randy. He truly loved and cared for his golfing buddies. Regardless of how Randy played on any particular day, the time spent with his friends on the golf course was the highlight of his day and something he always looked forward to.
Randy had a strong testimony of our Savior and the Atoning sacrifice made for him. Randy was blessed knowing that he was truly loved. Randy loved life and understood that any adversity that he had faced throughout his life, merely provided the path to return to his Heavenly Father and now eagerly awaits the reunion of his eternal family.
Randy is survived by his loving wife, Susie Meade; his children, Kirsten (Mike) Ulias of Boise, Gavn (Haley) Meade, Symantha (Jared) Holland, and Rachael (Whit) Wilcox all of Logan, Utah, and Josh Meade of Declo. He is also survived by three stepdaughters, Nicole (Ryan) Wilson and Tiffany Turner both of Pingree, Idaho, and Lani (Jordan) Moon of Bountiful, Utah; and 20 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucille Meade.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, at the Declo LDS Stake Center, 213 W. Main, with Bishop Dale Darrington officiating. Burial will be at the Declo Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.
At this time, Randy’s family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and prayers.
