Leopolda Nava Contreras

BURLEY – Leopolda Nava Contreras, age 85, of Ogden, Utah and formerly of Burley, died Sunday, March 20, 2016, at McKay-Dee Hospital, in Ogden, Utah.

Leopolda was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Buda, Tex., to Catholic parents, Otilio Cobio and Otilia Acosta. She grew up in a family where she was taught many important skills, especially the value of hard work, which she carried with her throughout her whole life.

At different times in her life, Leopolda lived in several Western states, including Texas, Idaho and Utah. She loved to spend time with her family; she was a great cook and also a skilled embroiderer.

She is survived by her children, Maria Elena Gallegos of Burley, Josefina N. (Roy) Nevarez of Burley, Gloria Nava of Ogden, Utah, Ramiro Nava of Ogden, Utah, Roberto Nava of Burley, Marta (Emilio) Rodriguez, Raul Nava, Yolanda Garcia, Emma (Pete) Balli, Ruben (Annie) Nava, and Alma Contreras, all of Ogden, Utah; sisters, Maria Luisa Nava of Nampa, and Marta Cervantes of Pharr, Tex.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Maria Acosta and Emma Nava; two brothers, Bruno Cobio and Francisco Cobio; one son, Rafael Nava Jr.; two sons-in-law, Gerry Gallegos and David Garcia; one grandson, Rosendo Nevarez; and one granddaughter, Sabrina Prieto.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 1601 Oakley Ave., in Burley, with the Rev. Father Julio Vicente as celebrant.

A vigil service will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. Monday, Mar. 28, with the rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at the church.
