Forrest Osborne Hall Forrest Osborne Hall

BURLEY - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Forrest Osborne Hall, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016, after an accidental fall. We will miss him greatly, but we know he is with our Savior and Heavenly Father, and his family who has passed before him.

Forrest was born Dec. 30, 1924, to Horace Osborne and Leona Blanche Pickett Hall in Burley, Idaho. He had a brother, Rex, and a sister, Barbara. Forrest had many good times playing with his friends in the fields and farms in the area. As he grew older, he participated in music, Boy Scouts, camping, trips with the family, skiing, and had several jobs in the farms and the orchards nearby. After graduation from high school in 1943, Forrest reported to the United States Army at Fort Douglas in Utah. He was stationed in New Guinea and the Pacific Theater including time in Japan during the occupation following World War II. After the Army, Forrest served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England and then attended Brigham Young University. Following graduation from college, he entered into a partnership with his father and had a livestock and farm operation for many years.

In August 1955, Forrest married Kathryn Hackett of Glendale, Calif., in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. In 1965, Forrest sold the farm business and, with a leap of faith, built a hardware and farm supply store. This was the commencement of Hall’s Farm and Home Supply (Hall’s True Value). Forrest had a great 25 years in the business and found much enjoyment in his work. He provided a great service for the community, provided for his family, and made some very good friends with this employees, vendors, and customers. In 1990, he retired from his work and started the next phase of his life. The retirement years were spent on several church missions with Kathryn including Ireland, Salt Lake Temple Square, Church Welfare Services, Dallas, Texas, and in the Boise and Twin Falls temples. He was also active in civic organizations such as Kiwanis, Burley Merchants Association, president of the Idaho Hardware Association, and as co-president and usher for the Mount Harrison Auxiliary at the King Fine Arts Center.

Forrest is survived by his wife, Kathryn; six children, Brent Hall, Ellen Judd, Joan Lauritzen (Mark), Richard Hall (Barbara), Brian Hall (Lisa), and Nathan Hall (Jeni); 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rex Hall; his sister, Barbara Allred; a son-in-law, Rockland Judd; and a grandson, Joseph Judd.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Burley LDS 3rd and 7th Ward Church, 2200 Oakley Ave., in Burley, with Bishop Brent Winn officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday, preceding the service at the church.

The family suggests memorials, in Forrest’s memory, be directed to the BYU-Idaho Pathways Program.

They also express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful staffs at Pomerelle Place in Burley, as well as Rosetta Assisted Living in Twin Falls, for the outstanding and compassionate care given to Forrest.
