BURLEY – Maxine LaFay Fowler Mohrlang, age 89, of Burley, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Countryside Care and Rehabilitation Center in Rupert.
Maxine was born on Aug. 2, 1923, in Everton, Boone County, Arkansas, the daughter of Fred James and Isabelle Nichols Trammell. She received and completed her education in Arkansas. She married Orice Vern “Blacky” Fowler on June 9, 1941, in Elko, Nevada. Together, they had three children, Colleen, Jerry Dean, and Ronald Kent. They made their home in Burley where they farmed south of Burley for many years. When Orice’s health declined, they moved into town and Maxine started a new career as a waitress. She worked at various locations but will be remembered most at Nelson’s Café, the National Hotel, the Copper Room and the Ponderosa Inn. Orice passed away in 1979.
Following his death, she married a wonderful gentleman, Warren Mohrlang. They spent many cherished years together and created long-lasting friends. Maxine and Warren enjoyed entertaining their countless friends and used their cooking skills in making each event an enjoyable and memorable experience. Additionally, they spent many hours and days canning, and especially enjoyed making pickles and jams.
Maxine was exceptionally gifted in crocheting (making literally hundreds of afghans), embroidery work, and in creating beautiful floral pieces for the different organizations for which she was involved. She was a lifetime member of the Ruth Rebekah Lodge of Burley, was a member of the Burley Elks Ladies Auxiliary – Does, and she and Orice were very active in the Clairmont Grange for many years. She was also a member of the Burley United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children, Colleen Maricle of Soldotna, Alaska, and Ronald Kent (Jackie) Fowler of Great Falls, Montana; her daughter-in-law, Carol Fowler of Burley; two sons that joined the family from her marriage to Warren, Tom Mohrlang and Brian Mohrlang both of Burley; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alma Lloyd and Barbara Burnette.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Orice and Warren; a son, Jerry Fowler; a granddaughter, Alicia May Fowler; and three sisters, Louise Allen, Juanita Hurt and Gloria Sisson.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Burley United Methodist Church, 450 E. 27th St., with the Rev. Kathy Abend officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Countryside Care and Rehabilitation Center in Rupert for the outstanding and tender care given to Maxine. We especially thank Juanita Kerbs, Diane Adamson and Arlyne Giles for the extra loving attention shown to our mother.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
