June Kirk Banner
BURLEY – Charlotte June Kirk Banner was born June 30, 1924, in Gibson City, Illinois, to Ray and Goldie Ann (Murdock) Johnson. She had five siblings, Helen Faught, Roy Johnson, Russell “Bud” Johnson, James Johnson, and Genevieve Hildebrand. Her parents and all of her siblings preceded her in death.
During the Great Depression, the Johnson family moved to North Dakota to work and two years later relocated to the Twin Falls area. It was here where June met and married the love of her life, Edward Lee “Ted” Kirk. Shortly after their marriage, World War II came along and Ted was drafted into military service.
June and Ted were blessed with four children, Deanna Lee Kirk Honsinger (Jim), Marilyn Kirk Bywater (Gary), Myra Kirk Beck (Glen), and John Edward Kirk. They lived in Twin Falls where Ted drove truck for Consolidated Freight Ways. June raised the children while Ted was on the road to Salt Lake City and back, every other day, until 1956, when they purchased farms in the Milner area. They were now in the farming and small-time dairy business. June went to work for Ore-Ida Foods in Burley, and helped Ted on the farm - along with the children’s help. As their children married and started their own families, Ted and June sold the farms and moved to Duarte, Calif., until 1978, when Ted passed away suddenly of a massive heart attack. She then returned to the Milner area.
There after, while attending a local dance, June met Morris Smith and they were married for a short time, this marriage ending in divorce. In 1982, she met and married John Banner; they lived in Heyburn during the summer and Quartzsite, Ariz., during the winter months. Together, they enjoyed married life until 1999, when John passed away quietly on Christmas Day. June’s new adventure came as she went south with her daughter and son-in-law, Myra and Glen, in the winters. She later sold her home in Heyburn, bought and moved a new home to Burley, and, once again enjoyed her summers in Idaho, and her winters in Bouse, Ariz.
She loved gardening and flowers; kept an immaculate home; her clothes were always in good repair; and her hair and nails kept beautiful! She will be greatly missed by her family and loved ones.
Our dear mother and grandmother passed away at Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert, on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2017, surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her children; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, siblings, and spouses, June was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Marilyn Bywater - who passed away on Jan. 15, of this year.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Bishop Rob Oakes. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Ted, at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls.
