TWIN FALLS – Hazel “Elverta” Plott, age 84, of Twin Falls, died Monday, February 20, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

Elverta was born on June 14, 1932, to Delbert Earl and Thelma Elverta Owens Alger. She received her education graduating from Twin Falls High School. Growing up she was a “country” neighbor with a boy named Dale Wayne Plott. As the story goes, Elverta, being an accomplished pianist would open the doors and windows of the house when Dale would drive up the lane and bang on the piano to get his attention. Once he went inside she would stop playing. They dated for a brief time prior to Dale’s service in the Army during the Korean conflict. They were married August 27, 1953, in Twin Falls, Idaho, and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, on July 30, 1954.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elverta served as organist and pianist for her church for 65 years. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother.

Elverta was a very service oriented woman and was a 4-H leader for eight years. She served in the Women’s Auxillary of the Twin Falls Fire Deptartment. She worked as a typist for Western Union, taught private piano lessons, taught organ lessons for Keith Jorgensen’s and would play Christmas music at the Twin Falls Bank and Trust. Elverta was co-founder of the Dale Plott Orchestra which later became “Gems” where she played dance band music for 55 years. The Dale Plott Orchestra played throughout Southern Idaho from Pocatello to Boise. They also traveled to Wells and Elko, Nevada, as well as Yuma, Arizona. The Orchestra played in Jackson Hole, Wyoming as part of Wyoming’s Centennial Celebration.

Music was her life but she also enjoyed sewing, singing, ceramics, camping with her family and reading. Family was most important to Elverta. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was proud to have three of them serve their country in the military.

Elverta is survived by her loving husband Dale; children, Luanne (Jim) Horting, of Twin Falls, Vernon Lee (Toni) Plott, of Kimberly and Duane Eugene (Roxie) Plott, of Twin Falls; 15 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Leroy Alger.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Twin Falls West Stake Center, 667 Harrison Street, in Twin Falls. Entombment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.

A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2017, at the Twin Falls West Stake Center and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service also at the church.
