Glen Walter Rasmussen
TWIN FALLS – Glen Walter Rasmussen, 98, of Twin Falls, died Friday, March 31, 2017, at Bridgeview Estates in Twin Falls.
Glen was born June 24, 1918, in Declo, Idaho, to Carl Alfred Rasmussen and Eliza Laurinda Larsen. He was the fourth child of nine. He grew up on a farm in Springdale, Idaho. Glen had to quit school after the 8th grade so he could work and help support the family. He loved playing his guitar and harmonica and played for thousands of people over the years. While he lived at Bridgeview Estates, he spent a lot of time entertaining (and teasing) the other residents and always had his harmonica in his pocket so he could play at a moment’s notice.
He married Winona Stocking in the Logan Utah LDS Temple on April 11, 1939. Together, they had seven children, Don Lamoyne Rasmussen (deceased), Myrna Slama (deceased), Melvin Steve Rasmussen, Vivian Lee Rasmussen (deceased), Lynn Calvin Rasmussen, Maureen (Howard) Wallace, and Kelvin B. Rasmussen (deceased).
Glen and Winona farmed in Springdale until 1956 when they moved to Twin Falls where they owned some apartment houses. He also did carpentry work. He was in high demand as a finish carpenter, tile setter, and remodeler. He worked many years in the Sun Valley area. He did tile setting in the Tyrolean Lodge in Ketchum, Idaho, and he plastered the McCall Hotel in McCall, Idaho. He also plastered some LDS churches. Glen used his woodworking skill to make many toys, games, and candy dispensers. He learned how to do paintings by watching a show on T.V. He enjoyed painting and giving them away. He loved the out-of-doors and spent many hours fishing the streams and lakes of southern Idaho.
Glen was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Glen will be missed for his humor and quick wit.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter, M. Steve Rasmussen of Pocatello, Idaho, Lynn C. Rasmussen of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Maureen (Howard) Wallace of Middleton, Idaho. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; all of his brothers and sisters; his wife of 71 years; two sons; two daughters; a son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; and one grandson.
A combined funeral for Glen and his daughter, Myrna Rasmussen Slama, who died on March 28, 2017, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where friends and family may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn.
