BURLEY - Ervin Ray Binam, age 60, a longtime resident of Burley, passed away at his home on April 04, 2017. Ervin was the firstborn of four children to James Mansford (Red) Binam of Harrison, Arkansas and Frances Elaine (Jensen) Binam of Rupert, Idaho. He was a St. Patrick’s Day baby, born on March 17, 1957, in Rupert, Idaho. He married Suzanne Severson in 1973; they were later divorced. They had one child during that union. Ervin, some years later, had a daughter who was adopted by her biological mother. He did not get to be a ‘Daddy’ to either child; a decision that he deeply regretted. Ervin married Paula Rohde in 2003. They later divorced.
Through his life Ervin was a “Jack of many Trades;” he worked in construction, fencing, roofing, was a handyman, farm hand, caretaker, truck driver, and a halfway house peer manager, among other titles. He enjoyed collecting a variety of things, drawing, listening to various types of music, serenading family and friends with the playing of a guitar, harmonica, banjo, and other instruments. He had a tender heart, a keen sense of humor, a passion for assorted items, and a great love of animals.
Ervin is survived by his sisters, LeNita Binam , Gloria Lee, and a niece/adopted sister Melissa DeNaughel (Danny) all of Twin Falls, Idaho; his uncle, Byron Jensen of Rupert, Idaho; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and several friends. His biological children, Chad (with whom he wanted to become acquainted) and Morgan (with whom he had recently become acquainted); one grandson, Travis (he did not get to meet but hoped to do so); and both ex-wives.
He was preceded in death by both parents; uncles, Merlin Jensen and Lester Kelley; aunt, Ramona Kelley; two nieces; several cousins and close friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Willows Event Center (the old Springdale School), 490 E. 200 S. of Burley.
Flowers and other contributions will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
