DECLO – Charles Lyndell Moffitt, an 88-year-old Declo resident, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center, in Twin Falls
Charles was born August 8, 1928, in Green City, Missouri, the son of Ambrose William Moffitt and Marjorie May Long Moffitt. Education was a substantial part of Charles’ life, and his pathway to becoming an educator led him first to Albion Normal College in Albion, Idaho; then, Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in English education; and finally, San Diego State University, where he obtained a Master of Psychology degree. In 1960, he married a fellow educator, Louise B. Bryner. They enjoyed life together until she succumbed to cervical cancer on June 9, 2007.
Charles enjoyed teaching and his life was enriched by the opportunities he had to educate students. He began teaching English in Carey, Idaho, in 1955; then, spent three years at Murtaugh High School from 1956 to 1958, before accepting a teaching position at Burley High School, where he taught from 1959 to 1968. In 1970, Charles and Louise moved to Tacoma, Wash., where Charles became a guidance counselor at Wilson High School, which he did until his retirement from teaching in 1990. He always referred to his experiences at Burley High School as being the most interesting and rewarding in terms of interactions with students.
Outside of his passion for teaching, Charles also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and writing; furthermore, he liked to cook and was quite skilled at it.
Charles is survived by his sister, Barbara Ann (Richard) Kerbs of Baker City, Oregon; and his brother, George Russell (Rosa) Moffitt of Burley, Idaho.
In accordance with Charles’ wishes, no formal services will be held.
