BURLEY – Sharon Anderson Smith has returned to our Heavenly Father after a lengthy and courageous battle with multiple myeloma on August 31, 2017. She will be missed by all those whose lives she has touched.
Sharon was born in Rupert, Idaho, on October 19, 1937, to Dean and Lula Anderson. She graduated from Rupert High School where she enjoyed baton twirling, dancing and sports. Sharon lived in Idaho her entire life. On April 12, 1957, she married J.B. Smith in Rupert. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple on January 27, 1978. Sharon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served honorably in numerous positions in the church.
Throughout her marriage she lived in several communities including Pocatello, Lava Hot Springs, Ketchum, Soda Springs, Kuna, Ririe, Oakley, and finally Burley. She always made new friends, some with whom she had maintained a relationship her whole life. Wherever she lived she made a wonderful home for her family.
During her life Sharon worked as a substitute teacher, school secretary, and Deputy Treasurer of Cassia County. She enjoyed being a member of the Oakley Valley Arts Council and participated in numerous productions. Sharon also enjoyed attending all theatrical productions that were in the area. She became a bowler because J.B. was an avid bowler and enjoyed the friendships she built. Sharon spent many hours sewing and crocheting. Flower gardening and music were also hobbies she enjoyed. When it came to her grandchildren’s activities, you could always find Sharon attending and cheering them on, no matter how far she had to drive.
Her surviving family includes her five children, Nancy (John) Durrant of Boise, Pamela (Larry) Jenson of Boise, Julie (Scott) Maeser of Idaho Falls, Laurie Park of Burley, Kevin (Krista) Smith of Chubbuck; seventeen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Also surviving her is her sister, LuDean Smith; and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Anderson, Mary (Vern) Juchau.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 8, at the Burley West Stake Center, 2420 Parke Avenue, in Burley. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th Street, in Burley. The family will also greet friends and family at the church one hour prior to the service.
