Johnny Anthony Meithof Johnny Meithof

BURLEY – Johnny Anthony Meithof, age 54, of Burley, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017, as a result of a tragic accident doing what he loved most; fishing below the Minidoka dam.

Johnny was born June 18, 1963, in San Diego, California to Charles Meithof and Rosita May Garcia. In his youth he was an amazing baseball player. Johnny also loved BBQ’s, fish fry’s, and enjoyed writing poetry.

He was employed at Handy Trucklines and had earned his GED. He was a mechanic and weldor having earned certifications in both. He was an active member of Narcotics Anonymous and became an active member of the LDS church after spending nearly half of his life in prison. All who knew him were uplifted by his smile and hugs and the inspirational changes he had made in his life by following the teachings of Jesus Christ. Once shackled by addictions to alcohol, tobacco, meth, and heroin, and a dark past, he miraculously rose above it all to demonstrate that anything is possible with the Lord’s help. He literally inhaled his freedom and his new life as a loving father and husband. His last heroic act was saving the life of his wife, Lori, by forcing her to the surface, which led to her survival, as he went down to pass on to the afterlife. An inspirational interview with Johnny may be viewed on youtube.com “Megan Graham change is possible”.

He is survived by his wife, Lori Meithof; his children, Sandy Jo Meithof, Skylar Meithof and Hailey Meithof; his step-children, Makayla Mercer and Saj Kawamoto; one sister, Desiree; and two brothers, Philip and David Meithof.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Burley 2nd Ward Chapel, 515 E. 16th St., in Burley, with Bishop Walter M. Graham officiating.

There will be an opportunity to express condolences to the family from 10 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
