D. Rex Davis
RUPERT – Darwin Rex Davis, age 66, of Rupert, went to his eternal fishing hole on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014.
Rex was born on April 26, 1947, in Rupert, Idaho, to Mary (Baily) and Wayne Davis. He grew up in the Acequia area until his family moved to Arrowrock Dam where he spent his days running around Atlanta, Idaho, with his brother, Garry. Some of his fondest memories were of him and Garry fishing, hunting, camping, and driving through the Middle Fork of the Boise River. He graduated from Boise High School and enlisted in the United States Army during the Fall of 1966. After serving in the Vietnam Conflict, he returned to the Boise area and married Ruth Colvin. They were blessed with seven children and came home to the Rupert area. They later divorced.
Rex married the love of his life, Shauna Hurst, in 1993, and happily gained five more children. They recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary with all of their children and grandchildren. He was so happy when he was able to spend time with his family and especially when camping, fishing, and hunting was involved. He was a fabulous cook who loved to share his newest recipe with anyone who liked to eat!
Rex had various occupations through the years. It didn’t matter if he was working a horse, milking cows, driving truck during harvest, or delivering the news, we all knew he was working hard to provide for his family. Hard work was the most valuable lesson he taught his children. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel.
He is survived by his wife Shauna; his children, Josh (Liz) of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Jeff of Rupert, Melisa (Ken) Carter of Rupert, Taylor of Boise, Ryan (Kristin) Shurtz of Shelley, Ben (Jenny) of Nampa, Aubrey Shurtz of Rupert, Dan (Jessica) of Jerome, Amber (Czar) Sklavos of Twin Falls, Rhen (Jamie) Shurtz of Rupert, Katie (Jeff) Carpenter of Boise, and Rebel (Shania) Shurtz of Heyburn, his mother, Mary (Andy) Jensen of Cedar City, Utah; one brother, Garry (Marj) Davis of Boise; a sister, June (Doug) Blackhurst of Nampa; and 19 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Davis; a grandson, Christopher; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
We love you Dad and will miss your enduring and fighting spirit every day.
The Davis Family would like to sincerely thank Intermountain Homecare, especially Tawny Pirtle, for the excellent care given to Rex over the last few months.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Rupert LDS West Stake Center, 26 S. 100 W., of Rupert, with Bishop Brad Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Rupert Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church.
