BURLEY – Marguerite Dorothy Nielsen Higley, age 98, of Burley, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at her home in Burley with her family at her side.

She was born Jan. 11, 1916, in Brigham City, Utah, the daughter of Oluf and Laura Olsen Nielsen. Marguerite grew up in Brigham City. She married Joseph Vallejo Higley. Throughout her married life she lived in Black Pine, Idaho and Magna, Utah. The last 54 years has been spent in Burley.

For years Marguerite worked at Simplots and Sav-Mor Drug. She loved to embroider special gifts for all her family. She loved anything that dealt with flowers and was an avid reader. Every spare minute was spent spoiling her family. Some of the things that we will always remember about our mother was her jet skiing at the age of 88, snorkeling in her 70s and her love of fishing with her little boys. Her goal in life was to have a loving and beautiful family and to return to her Heavenly Father.

Marguerite was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her favorite calling was visiting teaching. She loved the sisters she served.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; three brothers; one sister; one grandson; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Albert Bowers.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Bonita) Higley of Idaho Falls, DeAnna (Jerry) Peck of Highland, Utah, Becky (Kenneth) Stauffer of West Jordan, Utah, Ted (Betty Ann) Higley of Malta, Margaret (Devon) Rucker of Burley, Peggy (Marlin) Decker of Pocatello, and Penny (Loren) West of Heyburn; her sisters, Florence Streeper of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Rose (Ray) Miller of St. Louis, Mo.; 28 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great- grandchildren.

Her family wishes to give their sincere thanks to all the amazing people at Horizon Home Health & Hospice, especially to Pam, her caregiver.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Burley LDS Stake Center, 2050 Normal Ave., in Burley. Burial will be in Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, April 7, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
