Berniece Tegan
BURLEY – Berniece Patterson Tegan was reunited with her Father in Heaven on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, after a lengthy illness. She was greeted by her son, James; her parents, Leonard and Elda Patterson; a brother, Lloyd Patterson; among other friends and family.
Berniece was born Nov. 26, 1935, in Ogden, Utah, to William Leonard and Edith Elda (Holley) Patterson. She had two sisters, Jeri (Banner) and Verla (Olsen), and two brothers, Lloyd Patterson and Gaylin Patterson. She married the love of her life, J. Paul Tegan, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity on Aug. 16, 1956. They were blessed with four daughters, Tamra, Teresa, Paula, and Trena Jane, and a son, James Leonard.
Berniece had a kind and loving heart. She was known to never speak ill of anyone. She reminded her children often to, "never judge anyone until you've walked in their shoes." She loved to crochet afghans and other gifts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was active in the LDS Church and faithfully held many callings. In spite of working full-time at Ore Ida Foods, she still found time to support her children in school and their various activities.
Berniece is survived by her husband of 58 ½ years, James Paul Tegan; her daughters, Tammy (Jerry) Ovard of Keizer, Ore., Teri (Scott) Tolman of Boise, Idaho, Paula (Ron) Furden of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Trena Jane Tegan of Heyburn, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeri (Sam) Banner of Brigham City, Utah, and Verla Olsen of Iona, Idaho; and one brother, Gaylin (JoEtta) Patterson of Burley, Idaho.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the View LDS Church, 490 E. 550 S., of Burley. Burial will follow at the View Cemetery.
A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, April 25, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church.
