He was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on April 18, 1919, to Annest and Helen Stavros Pappas. After being raised on a farm in Declo, Idaho, he attended college at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, and received his medical degree from the University of Louisville in Kentucky in 1943. He married his Kentucky sweetheart, Ella Mitchell Hagan, with whom he had celebrated 69 years of marriage. He was also a member of the Burley United Methodist Church for 60 years and served the congregation faithfully in various leadership roles.
Dr. Annest received an internship and residency in medicine and surgery at the Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and the Scott White Clinic and Hospital in Temple, Texas. Following this training, he served in the military at the U.S. Navy Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, as a physician in the surgical services for two years. In 1948, he returned to Burley, Idaho, where he began his private practice of medicine and surgery . He was highly dedicated to the health and well-being of his patients for 36 years of practice.
Dr. Annest marveled at God’s creation and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to troll with his sons and with close friend, Frank Crawford, in his flat bottom boat on the beautiful reservoirs of southern Idaho, searching for the prize rainbow trout. He also loved to set up decoys in winter wheat fields and call in the Canadian geese. His hobby was yard work; he spent many hours landscaping and manicuring his beautiful yard in Burley.
He is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Dr. Con H. Annest (Barbara), Dr. James T. Annest (Debra), and Dr. Joseph L. Annest (Carmina); seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Annest, an attorney in Burley.
