RUPERT – Alan Wixom Greaves, our loving husband and father, returned home to the arms of our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the age of 86.
Alan was born on Nov. 30, 1927, in Preston, Idaho, to Seymour and Vera Wixom Greaves. In 1946, he joined the United States Army and served during World War II. After returning home, he married Joyce Rindlesbaker with whom he had three children, Clair Alan, Terry and Shelly. Alan and Joyce were later divorced. He married Colleen Almond on July 5, 1968. With this union came three children, Pat, Frank and Brenda, then later, together they had a daughter, Jody.
Alan was a carpenter his entire life. Other than Colleen and his family, carpentry was the most constant thing in his life. Alan worked for the J.R. Simplot Company from 1968 until his retirement in 1993. Alan built many beautiful homes and wood furniture (among other things) throughout his life. Plain and simple, he could build anything. He loved working with his hands, and it was always beautiful.
Alan loved to fish and took his family on many camping and fishing trips as they were growing up. He dearly loved his wife, Colleen, as she loved him. He loved all of his children and supported them throughout his life. His passing will leave a void in each of our lives, but he is at peace now and in the arms of our Father.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Anissa Rocha and the staff at Rosetta Assisted Living. Alan’s last few weeks were made much easier for him and the family due to the care, comfort, and dignity with which he was treated.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Greaves; six children, Terry (Sheila) Greaves, Shelly Checketts, Patrick Gifford, Frank Gifford, Brenda Gifford, and Jody LaBounty; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Seymour and Vera Greaves; a sister, Donna Gaye Hobbs; a son, Clair Alan Greaves; a grandchild, Creighton Checketts; and a great-grandchild, Timothy Radabaugh.
The funeral will be held at 12 noon Monday, April 28, at the Rupert LDS 3rd Ward Church, 526 South F St., in Rupert, with Bishop Thomas R. Haynes officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.
Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 11 until 11:45 a.m. Monday at the church.
