BURLEY – Dorothy Jean Butcher, an 89-year-old, longtime Burley resident, passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at Cassia Regional Hospital in Burley.

To our friends of Southern Idaho: Thank you for your thoughtfulness and kind deeds during this, our time of sorrow. To the friends and neighbors who were there for my mother and I at this time and in the previous years, a mere thank you is insufficient. The term friends and neighbors seems too common for all the things you have done. In my mind stands a monument erected for all of you who went out of your way and graciously helped us. I am now and will always be eternally grateful. – Kevin Butcher (Darrell’s Drycleaners)

By Cyndi: Who was and always will be Dorothy Jean Butcher?

Being part of her life for 25 years has been an experience that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

After losing the love of her life, Darrell, she proceeded to take care of their business, working long hours and doing her best to keep everyone happy. She loved her customers and made them all feel special when they came to Darrell’s Drycleaners. No one left her presence without a smile and knowing how important they were to her.

She was independent, bossy, demanding and always right, but her heart was full of love and appreciation for all. She fought her way through all the falls, surgeries and pain coming out as the winner.

She was the friend you needed.

She was the mother always there.

She was a grandmother to all, and that special person in your life when you felt all alone.

She loved hugs and kisses even when you did not. Her favorite four words were: Hey!! I love you! She would argue with the best, and put you in your place when she felt you were out of line. She would tell you what to do and then show you how to do it.

She loved fishing and camping and getting out of town even if just for a weekend. She would toast to your happiness, sadness, good luck and well-being. She loved Bingo and scratching lottery tickets and she shared all of it with those that were around her.

She was strong-minded, strong-willed, stubborn, hard to get along with and always in a hurry to get where she was going.

A woman who had ups and downs in life but she loved every minute of it. She worked hard, loved her children and grandchildren and yet she made sure everyone that came into her circle of life knew how much she cared.

Rest in peace Dorothy Jean Butcher and know how much you were loved by us all.

Dorothy chose not to have a service. I hope all who knew her will take a moment to remember and send her a smile.
