MURTAUGH – Bob Lee Brackenbury, age 84, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, with his family surrounding him at his home in Murtaugh.
Bob was born November 5, 1933, to Howard and Rosa Durfee Brackenbury in Almo, Idaho. He received his education in Almo. During his youth, he helped his dad and others ranch in the Almo valley. Bob, along with his five siblings and numerous school buddies, lead an adventurous childhood that included trips to the family hot springs, hunting and camping trips, traveling to dances around the area, riding rough stock at rodeos, and, playing a prank or two.
He entered the United States Army in 1956, and served during the Korean War for two years. Bob and Shirley Tracy married in November 1956, and to this union were born four children, Danny, Denise, Craig and Lesia. Bob lived in Almo and worked for Wallace Spencer in Yost, Utah. A few years later, the family moved to Burley, then Declo. It was after this move from Almo that Bob started his career working for the BLM. He worked fires, established many springs for cattle to water, and built and maintained roads on BLM grounds operating large equipment. He was raised a cowboy and continued to cowboy and ranch with his brother on the ranch in Elba for many years. He and Shirley divorced in 1978. Bob retired in 1980, following 20 years of service working for the BLM.
He and Bonnie Craner married in 1987, and moved to Murtaugh. Bonnie’s children, Rhonda and Jay, joined the family. He spent his summers helping his brother-in-law custom farm after retirement. He often shared how he enjoyed life roping at Simpers ranch, cutting wood, hunting, fishing, rides on his four-wheelers, getting together with family, the annual Easter outings to the cedars for a hot dog, and, the reunions with the Branckenbury and Durfee families.
Bob is survived by his children, Craig (Lynette) Brackenbury and Lesia Anderson both of Declo, and Rhonda (Shawn) Craig of Buhl; grandchildren, Casey, Lesley, Robert, Craig Jr., Bayley, Jaycee, Justin, and Christopher; great-grandchildren, Lilly, David, Tinsley, Mckenzie, Jaxson, Morgan, Serenity, Keiser, Logan, and Kyler; and two sisters, Myrna Hathaway and Gloria Hodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Denise; son, Danny; brothers, Lyle Durfee and Don Brackenbury; sister, Bette Matsen; son-in-law, David Anderson; and grandchildren, Andy, Cerina, and Brian.
