Clyde Junior Hutchinson
BURLEY – Clyde Junior Hutchinson, age 90, of Burley, passed away July 30, 2015, at home, surrounded by members of his family.
Clyde was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Dec. 1, 1924, to Flora Gertrude Cunnington and Abraham Clyde Hutchinson. He was the fourth of six children, with three brothers and two sisters. In 1930, when Clyde was six years old, the family moved to Heyburn, Idaho.
As a child, Clyde did farm work and enjoyed skating on the river, swimming, fishing, and camping. He attended school in Heyburn through the ninth grade. He was such a bright student that he skipped third grade. He attended Burley High School and graduated in 1942. On graduation day, he hitch-hiked to Boise to attend a vocational school and became an airplane mechanic. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was stationed at McChord Air Base near Tacoma, Washington. During World War II, he served in England as an airplane mechanic. Following the war, he was assigned to Switzerland to salvage Allied aircraft.
On Oct. 17, 1946, Clyde married Rae Mignon “Nonny” Williams. They enjoyed dancing to big band music at the Y-Dell and other venues. They had two sons, Steven and Keith. The young family often went fishing, camping, and enjoyed family gatherings throughout the Northwest Region. Clyde and Nonny had a beautiful large yard with a prolific garden and immaculate, colorful flower beds. Together, they made jellies and canned fruits and vegetables – including the best dill pickles ever!
Clyde was an active member of the Elks and the VFW. He bowled in a bowling league at Bonanza Lanes for many years with his good friend, Jerry Wyant.
After the war, Clyde worked with lifelong friend Frank Jensen as a carpenter. He turned the small house where they lived, at 1926 Yale Ave., into a much larger and more beautiful home that four generations have loved. In1952, Clyde went to work for the United States Post Office in Burley, Idaho, where he walked a route, sorted mail, and became a supervisor in 1962 – a position that he held until he retired in 1979. After he retired from the Post Office, he continued his carpentry, remodeling many homes throughout southern Idaho.
Clyde was an inspiration to all of those whose lives he touched. He instilled in all of his family his positive work ethic and integrity. He was always a great source of encouragement to family and friends with a positive attitude and great sense of humor.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham Clyde and Flora; his wife, Nonny; and brothers, Lonny, and Bruce.
He is survived by his sons, Steven (Susan) of Boise and Keith (Melanie) of Twin Falls; grandchildren, Mondae (Phillip) Robinson, Wendy (Jamie) Seagraves, Stephanie Hutchinson, Patrick Hutchinson, and Haley Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Mykaela and Morgan Robinson, and Jackson, Lillian and Serena Seagraves; brother, Lester; and sisters, Donna Arbogast and Sarah Ann Christenson
The family wishes to express heart felt gratitude to Sandy Lopez for taking care of Clyde for more than ten years, and Nonny before that. We are also deeply grateful for the care Jazmin Aceves provided in the last few months. We couldn’t have done it without them.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the United Methodist Church, 450 E. 27th St., in Burley. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley, with military honors provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Clyde’s name may be made to Golden Heritage Senior Citizen Center Meals-on-Wheels, 2421 Overland Ave., Burley, Idaho 83318.
The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
