Eugene Ray Reid

BURLEY – Eugene Ray Reid, 62, of Burley, passed away peacefully at the home of his sister on Monday, June 25, 2012, after a long valiant battle with cancer.

Eugene was born Aug. 7, 1949, in Cando, North Dakota, the third son of Clifford and Agnes Reid. Although the family moved to Burley in 1961, Eugene always considered North Dakota as home, and one of his last wishes was to “go back home.” Given the circumstances it didn’t work out.

Over the years Eugene did odd jobs here and there, but eventually went to work for Kloepfer Concrete in Burley where he was employed for more than twenty-five years doing shop maintenance, among other things. For the most part Eugene was a quiet man with a big heart. He worked hard at a slow pace, but he would do anything for anyone, and was capable of doing many things. He had a lot of hidden talents. One of Eugene’s favorite things to do was go to the Wayside, drink coffee, eat and hit on the waitresses.

Eugene is survived by his brother, Roger of Burley; his sister, Charlotte Bossert of Rupert; seven nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins “back home” in North Dakota and elsewhere. He was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest brother, Wayne; and sister-in-law, Elke Reid.

A viewing will be held from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant View Cemetery, 1645 E. 16th St., in Burley, where Eugene will be laid to rest next to his parents. A wake will follow the graveside service at his sister’s home located at 1524 Fir St., in Rupert.

Special thanks are extended to the Intermountain Homecare & Hospice team, especially Tawny, Lisa and Mario, for their care and compassion, and to the staff at Rasmussen Funeral Home. Each and every one of you have been very helpful and truly amazing. Thank you!
