Delano Ray Greener Delano Ray Greener

BURLEY - Delano Ray Greener, an 80-year-old resident of Burley, passed away unexpectedly following surgery, on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, in Pocatello Idaho.

He was born, March 20, 1935, in Burley, Idaho, to Byron G. and Radamae Yeaman Greener. He attended school in Burley, where he enjoyed playing on both football and basketball teams. He graduated from Burley High School in 1953. He married Mary Ruth Koyle on March 10, 1954, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Delano was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served numerous times in the Young Men program and served as a counselor in the bishopric of the Burley 6th Ward. Delano and Mary were blessed to serve two full-time missions together. Their first mission was in 2001-2003 where they served in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building helping members and nonmembers do family history research. They were fortunate to be able to serve in Salt Lake City during the 2002 Winter Olympics, where they were able to feel and observe the Olympic Spirit. They served their second mission in the Washington D.C. Temple in Kensington, Maryland, from 2006-2008. During this mission, they worked in the temple and enjoyed spending time together walking numerous trails and visiting our Nations historical sites. The past seven years they have loved serving in the Twin Falls Temple.

Delano worked at Hogan’s Leather and Canvas for 15 years. Later, he started his own business, Greener Canvas, where he made many boat covers, tarps, and anything a sewing machine could sew.

As a young man, Delano taught himself ventriloquism and performed ventriloquist acts with his friend, Danny, at many civic and church events. He and Mary benefitted from many free dinner dates! He loved the game of basketball and enjoyed playing on church teams, city league teams, and with friends and family up until the age of 67. He would have continued to play if his knees would have allowed. He always supported his children and grandchildren at all of their music, dancing, and sporting events. Delano’s favorite toy was his red tractor that he used on his 30 acres. However, his biggest enjoyment was serving and helping his family. He was involved in many service projects from remodeling, roofing, trimming trees, and whatever project the kids needed help with. He was always happy to help them.

He is survived by his best friend and eternal companion of 61 years, Mary; six children, Benjamin (Keri) Greener of Tremonton, Utah, Bryce (Sheri) Greener and Janet (Victor) Schaner of Burley, Darla (Craig) Blake of Rigby, and Barney (Sherrie) Greener and Brent (Laura) Greener both of Burley. He has 38 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by three brothers, Dale (Venda) Greener of Heyburn, Dennis (Peggy) Greener of Idaho Falls, and Kevin (Cami) Greener of Rigby; and two sisters, Karen (Ron) Olson of Hooper, Utah, and Beth Ann Cooper of Burley.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Devon Greener; one grandson, Bryce Eldon Greener II; one granddaughter, Deveree Richardson; and a great-granddaughter, Dakota Twiss.
Delano did not need many material things to make him happy. He lived a simple life but has left lasting marks on the lives of many. He will be greatly missed by those who dearly love him.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at the Unity LDS Church, 275 S. 250 E., of Burley, with his son, Bishop Brent Greener, officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St, in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.
