RUPERT - Delbert Henry Rasmussen, 81, of Rupert, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, with his loving wife, Cora May, at his side.
He was born Jan. 26, 1934, in Springdale, Idaho, the son of Vilhelm Henry and Emma Janette Dayley Rasmussen. He had two older sisters, Bertha and Betty. He went to school through the 8th Grade at Springdale Elementary and graduated from Burley High School in 1952. After graduation, Delbert served in the Paratrooper 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, N.C. He married Cora May Hilling in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on May 13, 1953. Together, they had five children.
Delbert was always willing to lend a helping hand and was very active in his community. He served as a volunteer fireman, in the police reserve, and was a member of the Rupert Kiwanis Club. He worked for Magic Valley Foods for 33 years retiring as a safety director. After retirement, Delbert used his woodworking talents to create beautiful and unique birdhouses. He donated most of his birdhouses to local community fund-raising events. Delbert was an active member of the LDS Church holding several callings. Delbert and Cora served a full-time mission in the Illinois Chicago Mission in 2002-2003. Delbert loved the outdoors - especially the mountains. He had fond memories of cousin trips, working cattle, and hiking with his children. He never knew a stranger, making all who passed his friend. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Delbert is survived by his wife, Cora May of Rupert; their five children, Susan (Charles) Baca of Kimberly, Debbie (Charles) Curtis of Sedona, Ariz., Nancy (Randy) Terry of Springdale, Marilyn (Terry) Gabrinetti, of Cedar Hills, Utah, and D.
