Date of Service: Nov. 12, 2021

Edmond J Stamper BURLEY – Edmond “Ed” Jay Stamper, age 74, of Burley, passed away at the V.A. Medical Center in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

Ed was born to John William Stamper and Mary Elizabeth Hancock Stamper on April 19, 1947, in Burley, Idaho. He had two sisters, Mary Lou Scott and Kay Clark.

Ed grew up in Glenns Ferry until the age of 13. During the move from Glenns Ferry, Ed’s dog had died, so he stayed behind to bury him. The next morning he got up and rode his horse as far as Milner where his dad picked him up and took him home for the night. The next morning his dad took him back to get the horse to finish the ride home. After their move to Burley, Ed attended schools where he graduated high school.

In November of 1966, he was drafted into the Army. He served in the Vietnam War as a Field Wireman. While serving his country he was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart on July 31, 1968. He completed his tour and was honorably discharged on September 25, 1968. Later he bought a home south of Burley where spent the rest of his life.

Ed was a professional carpet layer. He started his business over 50 years ago, where he became well known in the magic valley area. Ed had two sons, Matt and Chris. He taught them the trade and they later joined him in his business. He was still laying carpet at the time of his death.

Ed enjoyed fishing when he was younger, but later he discovered his love for Harley’s. He was an independent rider, but was a supporter of all biker clubs in the area, contributing to all fund raisers, whether he could make it to the runs or not. He thoroughly loved being part of the poker runs, where he made many friends.

Ed loved taking road trips on his Harley. Ed, his nephew Bill and his wife Nina, best friend Grant and his wife Jeannie started planning road trips on their Harley’s every year. They created many memories together.

After knowing each other for many years in May of 2009 a relationship developed between Ed and Marilyn Taylor. She joined them on their annual bike trips, where many more memories and friendships were enjoyed.

Ed loved all animals and they definitely loved him. He loved dogs more than anything and owned several throughout his life. He felt sorry for a few stray cats that would come up on his porch looking for food. He started feeding them and it has eventually grown to the last count of 17 cats.

Ed had a big heart and a beautiful smile. He was fun, outgoing, and one hell of a great man. He would drop what he was doing to help anyone in need. There will never be another soul like him. He will be missed by all indeed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents.

Ed is survived by his sons, Matt and Chris of Burley; the love of his life, Marilyn of Heyburn; Granddaughters, Tesla and Aubrey; Great-Grandson, Tyce and one on the way; as well as his sisters, Mary Lou and Kay of Burley.

A viewing for family and friends will be held Friday, November 12, 2021, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 East 16th Street, Burley, Idaho. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
