Sep. 24, 1940 - May 4, 2022
OAKLEY – Dahl D. Olsen, passed away, on May 4, 2022, from pancreatic cancer in his home in Oakley, Idaho.
Dahl was born on September 24, 1940, in Burley Idaho, to Jesse Orville Olsen and Kerma Lorena
Petterson. He grew up in Nyssa Oregon, and loved the outdoors. He was an active child who spent most of his childhood outside and on a horse. He played baseball in high school, and graduated in 1958. He attended Brigham Young University, where he was the Air Force ROTC Detachment Cadet Commander. Dahl served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hong Kong, where he learned the Cantonese language.
After graduation from BYU, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force, where he served for four years, at which time he transitioned to the FBI. He worked as a Special Agent for 20 years and retired in 1991. Dahl married Chyrrel Gwen Olsen of Mesquite Nevada, and together they had five children. Work assignments took them to Oklahoma, Michigan, California, Texas, back to California, and he retired in Nevada. After retirement, Dahl returned to his beloved cowboy life, and spent many of his remaining years in a saddle. He was a cowhand with his brothers in Idaho during the summers, and oversaw various ranches in Arizona during the winters. He completed the entire 1847-1997 re-enactment of the Mormon exodus from Nauvoo to Salt Lake City on his horse, one of just a small handful to complete the entire distance.
He loved his family, including 26 grandkids, and his animal friends—horses and dogs. Dahl was
preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Vard (Mick); and is survived by his brothers, Garth
(Kay) and Chad, sister Susan (Kent); and children, Scott (Trish), twins Tami (Jeremy) and Teresa,
Steven (Gretchen), David (Tara); 26 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. The family will
have a small memorial service in the mountains he loved, and where he spent much of his time.
