Date of Service: Mar. 16, 2024
HAZELTON – Edward (Ed) Lincoln Slack passed away at Parke View Rehabilitation and Care Center in Burley, on Sunday, March 3, 2024, after telling nursing staff, “I’m going,” which they thought meant he was going down the hall, but he meant he was going to heaven. Ed was 68 years old and died of diabetes complications.
Ed was born August 21, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah, but was raised in Hayward, California, where he spent most of his life and loved the warm weather. He had a passion for fast cars and often boasted about having the fastest one in town – racing his brothers. As an adult, he mainly worked as a long-haul truck driver with his goal being to visit all 48 continental states, and he managed to achieve most of that goal.
Ed was a dog lover and always had at least one to keep him company. When he was 22, his family moved to Idaho. He did not join them until many decades later after Marie passed away. In his last five years he lived at Highland Estates Assisted Living in Burley where he was known as the resident who loved teasing with a dog named Buzz. Ed will always be remembered as the brother and uncle who had a joke for every occasion and loved to tease constantly.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Marie Jackson; his mother, Arta Mae Okelberry Slack; and his father, Wayne Thomas Slack.
Ed is survived by his twin brother, Russell Slack of Sugar City; older brothers, Daniel (Lee) Slack of Jerome and Alan (Susan) Slack of Grand Junction, Colorado; a younger sister, Katherine (Curtis) McEwen of Hazelton; and younger brothers, Doug Slack of Jerome and Timothy (Holly) Slack of Sugar City. In addition to his siblings, Ed is also survived by Karen Jennings and Kim (Darryl) Francis and her children, Lauren and Jeremy of Castro Valley, California, whom he loved as his daughters; many nieces and nephews, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Emerson 2nd Ward, located at 127 S. 950 W., of Paul, where family and friends will be received from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Burial will follow at Hazelton Cemetery.
Funeral Directors: Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
