Betty Behr
Logan
May 1, 1937 - Jun. 4, 2024
Date of Service: Jun. 14, 2024
Never fearful of striking out ahead of the pack, Betty Logan once again forged her own path as she made her way to meet her beloved husband early in the afternoon on June 4, 2024. Undoubtedly astride her favorite mare, Tika, and followed faithfully by her prized mule, Kizzy, Betty bid adieu to her loved ones in the same determined manner in which she lived her life — charging ahead to the beat of her own drum.
Betty Behr was born to Chester Henry (Chet) and Mary Magdalena (Miriam) Schorzman Behr in Declo, Idaho, on May 1, 1937. She was the younger of a fraternal set of twins and cherished her twin brother, Robert (Bob) Behr, and was a proud older sister to baby brother, William (Bill). She and her middle sister, Evelyn Behr (Allen) could often be caught later in life imbibing on some sweet concoctions and giggling like their younger selves before Boise State football games. She was always up for having a good time and quick to laugh or give a needed hug. Whether it was shocking those around her by bravely wearing lipstick before it was standard behavior, or showing up nearby hunters or anglers with her trophy bull elk or the largest catch of the day, Betty always pursued life with a contagious zeal.
That same zeal was evident in her love and marriage to her husband, Robert Chapman Logan. Betty and Bob (as they were known) met in the summer of 1952 and began a lifelong love that spanned nearly 65 years. Betty could be heard fondly recalling that she knew when she saw that “handsome man” that she wanted to marry him, and she did on the 28th of March, 1953. Their love affair would include the birth of four children, Robert (Jeannie) Logan, Sally (Brian) Brown, Susan (Jon) Mensinger, and Thomas (Susan) Logan, a couple dozen grandchildren, nearly as many great-grandchildren, and even a special few great-great-grandchildren.
Betty and Bob moved to the Wood River Valley in 1960 where she worked at Hailey Hospital, Sun Valley Company, and finally at Blaine County School District before retiring with Bob to their final home and acreage in the Bellevue Triangle to raise their livestock and enjoy their days.
With their large family, it was no surprise that Betty loved to be surrounded by her kin. In the winters, she could be found teaching grandchildren to ski on Rotarun Ski Hill where she and Bob volunteered for nearly 40 years. In 2003, their time dedicated to the mountain was commemorated with a ski run (Logan’s Run) named after them on the hill. Betty could be found the rest of the year taking grandchildren for evening horseback hotdog cookouts up Greenhorn Gulch, or watching them learn to water ski on Deadwood Reservoir during family summer vacations. Betty was the matriarch of a loving and active family modeled after her own loving marriage and active life. To encapsulate a life so full and beautiful in so few words is nearly as impossible as trying to express the extent to which her family will never be able to fill the void left in her absence. The world is far better for her years in it and her legacy lives in the lives of her family and friends.
Betty will be greeted at the gates of heaven as by her loving husband, Robert Logan; her parents, Chet and Miriam Behr; her twin, Bob Behr; and many extended family members and friends.
Never to be left behind by Betty, we can be sure she will also be met by a herd of her horses which she so dearly loved and missed over the decades, and many, many dogs. She is most certainly sitting happily in the saddle next to her greatest love, Bob, as they are finally able to explore this next horizon together. Giddy Up, Betty.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Paul Stake Center, located at 424 W. Ellis St., in Paul, with Bishop David Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.
