Date of Service: Jun. 22, 2024
BURLEY – Our beloved wife and mother passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on June 10, 2024.
Marie was born February 12, 1950, in Uvalde, Texas, to Catarino Gonzales and Rita Flores Gonzales. Marie was the ninth of eleven children.
Her family moved to Burley in 1965, and she graduated from Burley High School in 1970. Later that year she married Ray Martin Koyle and had two daughters, Valarie Lynn and Richelle Lee, they later divorced.
She met and married the love of her life, her forever sweetheart, Dennis D. Dayley, on May 10, 1975. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on June 29, 1979. She became a step-mom to Shawna, Gary, and Erica Dayley. Their family grew as they added two sons, Jeremy and Isaac.
She was an attentive and supportive wife traveling on telecom projects with Dennis and their company, Renegade Construction, in the early years of their marriage. When the children reached school age she stayed home in Burley to give them stability while Dennis traveled. During this time she was a teacher’s aide at Springdale kindergarten and Southwest Elementary. She later opened her “Home Plate” card shop on Overland Ave., in 1990.
In 2002, they retired and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. They split time between Burley, and Las Vegas over the years, only stopping due to recent health issues. They loved to travel and enjoyed this time doing everything together.
She opened “Miss Marie’s,” in 2014, when they built a shopping center on the corner of 16th and Overland. They both spent time there, Dennis working on the property and Marie spending time in her little “Gift Shoppe.” She spent many hours there visiting with old and new friends.
Marie was known to call everyone she met her friend and never shied from a conversation with any and everyone around her. Her fun, energetic, loving spirit will be missed greatly by those she touched throughout her life, but mostly by her dear grandchildren who loved visiting Nana at her shop.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dennis Dee Dayley; daughters, Valarie (Gilbert) Crane, and Richelle (Paul) Tierney; sons, Jeremy Dayley, and Isaac (Veronica) Dayley; stepchildren, Shawna Gomez, Gary (Lavonna) Dayley, and Erica (Karl) Reinstra; her brothers, Seferino Gonzales, Catarino Gonzales Jr., Fred Gonzales, George Gonzales; and 30 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Catarino and Rita Gonzales; brothers, Richard Delgado, Dan Hidalgo, Frank Gonzales, Antonio Gonzales, and David Gonzales; sister, Mary Elsie Cruz; and one great-grandson, Tariq Dayley.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Springdale 2nd Ward, located at 519 E. 200 S., of Burley. Burial will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery following the funeral.
Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.
