BURLEY – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Douglas Clyde Manning, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by service, strength, faith, and his unmistakable golden voice that touched an entire community. Doug passed away peacefully at his home on March 20, 2026.
He had a deep and lasting love for the City of Burley, a place he not only called home, but served wholeheartedly. He was honored to serve as Mayor of Burley, and later as the city’s Economic Development Director, where he worked tirelessly to support growth, connection, and opportunity. Through his years of service, he built countless friendships and left a lasting imprint on the community he loved so much.
He was known by many for his voice, a golden voice that became part of the rhythm of the Burley community. For over 35 years, he announced local sports, bringing energy and excitement to games and events. He also lent his voice to Burley horse races and worked in radio, becoming a familiar, and trusted presence to many. As a gifted journalist, he shared stories and insights through his beloved column, The Bobcat Corner, in the local newspaper for many years.
For 26 years, he served as the emcee for the Magic Philharmonic Orchestra, a role he cherished deeply. April 3, 2026, would have marked the conclusion of that remarkable chapter of service.
Doug was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On February 12, 1987, he was sealed to his beloved wife, Cindy Lynn Powell Manning, in the Salt Lake Temple. On that same sacred day, their family, Collette, Ranie, and Ryan, was sealed together for time and all eternity, a truth that brought him great peace and purpose throughout his life.
Behind the scenes, Doug was a man of extraordinary resilience. Over the past 26 years, he endured numerous health challenges with courage and determination. Through surgeries, recoveries, and life-threatening moments, he continued forward with grit, and even humor, once joking that the two worst words in the English language were “Foley catheter.”
But above all, he was a family man.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Cindy Manning; his children: Collette Brunson (Russell), Ranie Evans (Jim), and Ryan Manning (Lisa); and his 11 grandchildren: Tyler, and Bella Evans; Dallin, Bowen, Ellie, Aiden, and Norah Brunson; and Addie, Claire, Kate, and Emmie Manning. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Wardle (Larry); his father-in-law, John Kay Powell; and his sisters-in-law, Tammy Adams, Jane Morley (Tony), and Patty Gailey (Mike).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde (Rip) and Mary Loanda Hill Manning; his infant sister, Linda Manning; his beloved grandson, Branden Evans; his mother-in-law, Verlene Powell; and, his brother-in-law, Danny Powell.
Doug will be remembered for his strength, his faith, his deep love for his family, and his golden voice that brought people together and became part of the heart of his community. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Burley 3rd Ward, located at 2200 Oakley Avenue, in Burley, with Bishop John Preston officiating. Burial will be at the Mormon Cemetery in Albion.
