Aug. 4, 1981 - Apr. 23, 2026
Date of Service: Apr. 30, 2026
BURLEY – Danette Day, a 44-year-old resident of Burley, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 23, at her home with her family by her side, after fighting a courageous 14-month battle with cancer.
Danette was born August 4, 1981, in California on March Air Force Base, to Ron Hoffman and Rene. Her parents later separated and she gained a stepdad, Brian, who she also called dad. She became the oldest of three. Growing up her family moved around often. When she was younger she lived in Arkansas, Nevada, and Idaho. She would often visit her dad in Texas. When she was 16, she became a mom for the first time. Although she was young she never let that hold her back. Danette, Zach, and the baby all moved back to Idaho to live with his parents and get back on their feet. They went back to school and graduated from MCOC in 2001. Before their graduation they married and welcomed their second son into the world. They both worked at JR Simplot in 2000, and Danette continued to work there even after their closing in 2003. The two later separated and Danette moved to Twin Falls and eventually Jerome. She worked at Jerome Cheese for the years that she lived there. She welcomed three more kids into her life over those years. In 2013, she moved back to Burley. She started working for DOT Foods in 2014, where she met many wonderful people, and lifelong friends like Travis Godfrey and Deb Housewrite, just to list a couple of the many. In 2013, she married Joe Day. Although a few years later they parted ways they remained close, even up to the last days she was with us. Joe was the only true dad the younger three kids had and she was grateful for that.
Danette was an amazing person, a true inspiration to so many people. She was always willing to help anyone she could, she never met a stranger. Her family and friends were her life, she enjoyed doing anything that involved them. Her grandbabies were what she was most excited for. She fought so hard to be here to meet the next two grandbabies on the way, but we know she is keeping their spirits until it is their time to come.
Danette is survived by her five pride and joys: Nathan (Delanie) Woolstenhulme of Twin Falls, Nicholas (Myia) Woolstenhulme of Twin Falls, Maycee, Madison, and Noah Cross of Burley; her mother, Rene (Brian) Morris of Boise; father, Ron (Penny) Hoffman of Texas; sister, Donna (Dustin) of Boise; brother, Brian (Brandon) of Oregon; and sister, AnAleshia (Cody) McCrea of Burley; four nephews: Isaac, Eric, Avery, and Damian; one soon-to-be niece, Stella; plus a bonus niece and nephew, Andrew and Mika McCrea. Then the best parts are her three grandbabies, Malakai and the two waiting to still make their presence–her grandson, Mykah, and the only granddaughter whose name is still yet to be released; and, of course, her best friend, Travis Godfrey.
She was preceded in death by both fraternal and maternal grandparents; a great-aunt, Sharron; her former in-laws, Alan and Anita Woolstenulme; and she has been reunited with her angel baby she lost many years ago.
The family would like to thank everyone at St. Luke’s Cancer Center; the palliative care team, Visions Home Health, especially her nurse Addison; DOT Foods, Burley 2nd ward Relief Society, and everyone else along the way that helped her and the family through this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Danette’s honor to be made to the Cancer Center of St. Luke’s Twin Falls, Magic Valley Health Foundation.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Burley 2nd Ward, located at 2050 Normal Ave., in Burley. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley.
