BURLEY – Ray Wood Muir, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 28, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and lasting friendships.

Ray was born on November 19, 1943, in Logan, Utah, to Eddis L. Muir and Florence Loraine Wood Muir. He spent his early years in Mendon, Utah, before moving to Idaho at the age of four. Due to his family’s frequent moves, Ray attended several schools before graduating from Gooding High School in 1962.

Following high school, Ray attended Idaho State University, where he studied diesel mechanics for a year. He later returned to Utah, where he worked in construction on the interstate. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Kathy. The couple had planned a June wedding, but with Ray facing the prospect of being drafted, they chose to marry earlier, in April 1965. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in March 1969.

Ray entered the United States Army in January 1966. During this time, he and Kathy experienced the heartbreaking loss of their stillborn daughter, Eva Sue, in October 1966. Ray was later deployed to Vietnam, where he served repairing sheet metal on downed helicopters.

After his honorable discharge, Ray and Kathy settled in Burley, Idaho, where they built a life centered on family and community. Ray was a proud business owner, operating Ray’s Chevron, Ray’s Mufflers, and later Ray’s Car Care. He took great pride in being self-employed and serving his community.

Ray had a deep love for classic cars and was an active member of the local car club, MCAC. He treasured the friendships he formed there over the years. In honor of Ray’s passion, the family invites anyone with a classic car to drive it to his funeral as a tribute to his life.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Eva Sue Muir; his brother, Dal Muir; his sister, Carolyn Hansen; his sister-in-law, Elaine Muir; and his brother-in-law, Dwaine Mooso.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Katherine Gochnour Muir; his five children: Raquel (Brad) Turner, Jeff (Becky) Muir, Holly (Don) Konrad, Alicia (Vance) Miller, and Brian (Lisa) Muir; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren, with three more expected this summer. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Mooso, Renae (Larry) Strutz, Rena Muir; and sister-in-law, Gay Muir.

Ray will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for his family, and the many friendships he built throughout his life. His legacy will live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Star 1st Ward, located at 96 S. 200 W., of Burley, with Bishop Ryan Hobson officiating. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Gardens with Military Rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service at the Church.
