HEYBURN – Patricia “Trish” Hurst, 70, of Heyburn, passed away unexpectedly while visiting family in Tennessee on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

Trish was born September 27, 1955, in Burley, Idaho, the oldest of three children born to Stephen Ellis and Joyce Dawn Henderson Ottley. After graduating from Minico High School in 1973, she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Boise State University.

She married her best friend and eternal companion, Ricky Glenn Hurst, on October 19, 1974, in the Ogden Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout her life, she faithfully served in many church callings, including Primary, Young Women, and music organizations.

Trish worked for 25 years at Amalgamated Sugar. She also operated Trish’s Weddings for 10 years and provided bookkeeping services for Darrington Farms in Declo and Hem-Stitching Etc. in Burley.

One of her greatest passions was swimming. She served as swim director at Racqueteers (now Impact Athletic) and later at the Burley Pool. Over more than 30 years, she taught countless children to swim, including lessons in her own backyard during recent years. She also trained more than 400 lifeguards over a 24-year period.

Trish was equally devoted to 4-H. She led one of the largest clubs in Cassia County and served at regional, state, and international levels. She and Rick represented Idaho in Japan during the 25th International Exchange Forum and hosted several Japanese youth in their home, maintaining friendships with many of them throughout the years. In recognition of her contributions, she was among the first inductees into the Idaho 4-H Hall of Fame.

She loved working with children of all ages and finding opportunities to serve others. Even in death, her spirit of service continues through organ donation, which will help save three lives.

Trish was an avid Utah Jazz fan, remaining loyal long after John Stockton retired. For several years, she hosted monthly “Grandma Days” with her grandchildren, creating treasured memories that will last a lifetime. She made every effort to attend her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and often worried about how she and Rick could be in multiple places at once while still fulfilling their many other responsibilities.

She and Rick traveled to Africa, England, Scotland, and Ireland. At the time of her passing, she was in Tennessee attending her granddaughter’s graduation—a reflection of her commitment to supporting the people she loved.

When time allowed, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, cross-stitching, playing the piano (self-taught), and swimming.

Whether teaching a child to swim, serving in her church and community, supporting a 4-H member, or cheering on a grandchild, Trish’s greatest joy came from helping others succeed. Her influence will continue to be felt for generations.

Her children and grandchildren will remember her as their biggest cheerleader. Her life was centered on faith, family, and service, and those who knew her understood that she gave her whole heart to everything she did.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 52 years, Rick Hurst; children, Summer (Brian) Blauer of Heyburn, Peggy (Jonathan) Vernon of Shelley, Nancy (Greg) Page of Santa Clara, Utah, Stephen (Lindsay) Hurst of Rupert, Thayne (Amber) Hurst of Maynardville, Tennessee, Elizabeth (Brett) Stephens of Rupert, and Andrea (Sean) Haysom of Key West, Florida; brothers, Vance Ottley and Steve John (Jenny) Ottley, both of Burley; brother-in-law, Tim (Becky) Hurst of Heyburn; and 22 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Joyce Ottley; parents-in-law, Harold and Irene Hurst; also in-laws, Dean (Jan) Hurst, and Cindy (Kelly) Hutchison; and granddaughters, Quinn and Baylee Page.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Rupert West Stake Center, located at 26 S. 100 West, Rupert, Idaho, with Bishop Tyson Steel officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home.
