Date of Service: Oct. 16, 2026
HEYBURN — Leta Rae Cutler Jackson, a 90-year-old lifetime resident of Heyburn, died Friday, October 2, 2026, in Klondyke, Arizona, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Wayne and Sherral Curtis.
She was born June 11, 1936, in Heyburn, Idaho, at the home of her parents, Albert James and Norma Mahala (Harwood) Cutler. She was the fifth of six daughters. She had one brother, Wendell (Linda) Cutler and five sisters, Phyllis, Nedra, Bettie, Wilma and Pat (all deceased). She received and completed her education in the Mini-Cassia area. She attended Heyburn schools and was active in the pep band (snare drums and cymbals) in high school. She was also involved in All Girl’s dance and the choir. She married her sweetheart of 73 years, William Duane Jackson, January 23, 1953, and their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls IdahoTemple on April 20, 1961.
Leta was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including serving in a Primary presidency, Young Womens presidency and Relief Society presidency. She served many years in the church scouting program as a Den Mother. She also attended Young Womens Camp as a camp counselor. If her children were involved, she found a way to serve. She and Bill served a mission for the Church at the Burley Food Cannery during their retirement. Leta loved family history work and served many years as a family history consultant at the Burley Family History Library. She was a faithful ministering sister, a woman of faith and covenant, and a true disciple of Jesus Christ. She found many ways to serve in the community including volunteering to drive school bus when the district was in desperate need of parent volunteers. At the time, it was a volunteer position, but it turned into a 35-year career. When she retired, she had a perfect driving record.
Leta enjoyed reading. She was a lifelong learner. Leta and Bill enjoyed collections. Over the years together, they collected bottles, rocks, autographs, and so much more. They enjoyed creating jewelry, wood working projects and restoring classic cars. Leta took painting lessons later in life and received many blue ribbons for her artwork. Even after being diagnosed with macular degeneration, she continued her painting and family history interests. She loved sunflowers, bull riding (to watch) and, more than anything, she loved her husband and family.
She is survived by two sons, Randy (Evea) Jackson of Rupert, and Michael (Iris) Jackson of Burley; two daughters, Sherral (Wayne) Curtis of Klondyke, Ariz, and Brenda (Wendell) Cooper of Santa Clara, Utah; son-in-law, Ken (Billie Rae-deceased 2026) DeNaughel of Burley; 27 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Wendell (Linda) Cutler of Heyburn; sister-in-law, Bonnie Jackson (Bob-deceased) of Alpine, Utah; and brother-in-law, LaVern Jackson (Renee) of Smithfield, Utah. She was a beloved aunt of her many nieces and nephews. Family was family for Bill and Leta. They included everyone.
Leta was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Bill, on July 5, 2017; her daughters, Deborah Anne Jackson (1975) and Billie Rae DeNaughel (2026); her parents; five sisters, Phyllis, Bettie, Nedra, Wilma and Patsy; a granddaughter, MLee DeNaughel (2006); and a grandson, Bradley Wendell Cooper (2023).
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 16, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Heyburn 1st Ward, located at 530 Villa Dr., in Heyburn, with Bishop Jared Price officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn.
Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, October 15, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th Street, in Burley. There will be no viewing at the church prior to the service.
