BURLEY – Loren DeVon Baker, age 56, of Burley, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.
He was born on Oct. 22, 1956, in Rupert, Idaho, the son of Wade and Afton Ethel (Garner) Baker. He received his education in Burley and graduated from Burley High School in 1975. He served as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Florida Tallahassee Mission. He later received a bachelor’s degree in electronics from the DeVry University of Phoenix. He married the love of his life, Janette Broadhead, on Feb. 16, 1979, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together, they had seven children.
In Loren’s early years, he farmed with his father and brothers, and for the past several years he has worked as an electronic technician for McCain Foods. Loren was taught at an early age the value and importance of hard work. He instilled this wonderful trait by perfect example to his children.
His love of the Savior never wavered and he spent a lifetime of service in the LDS Church. He had served in the High Priest group leadership, the Sunday school presidency, and simply loved his calling as ward clerk. His devotion to the Lord has set the foundation for his family. He loved and adored his beautiful wife and made certain that her needs were met. He spent quality time with his children teaching them how to fix anything and everything and in preparing them for life. He was expert in solving problems and was a lifelong learner and teacher. His gifts of kindness and tenderness were a great blessing and example to everyone around him.
He is survived by his wife, Janette of Burley; his children, Keith DeVon (Jenny) Baker of Idaho Falls, Bryce Mitchell (Katrina) Baker of Pocatello, Natalie Ann (Matt) Yost of Minneapolis, Minn., and Cameron Reed (Lori) Baker, Nathan Jay (Hayley) Baker, Melissa Janette Baker, and Dallas Steven Baker all of Burley; his five grandchildren, Hannah Bayton, Sadie Baker, Emma Baker, Bryan Yost and Madilyn Yost; his siblings, Larry (Radean) Baker of Rupert, and Leland (Sherry) Baker, Shirlene (LaMont) Anderson, Dwaine (Linda) Baker, Ronald (Mary) Baker, and Rell (Sanie) Baker all of Burley; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members who deeply loved him.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dennis Lee Baker.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Pella LDS Church, 160 W. 400 S., of Burley, with Bishop Lyle D. Sager officiating. Burial will be in the Rupert Cemetery.
