Mary Lou Stiens

BURLEY – Mary Lou Stiens, age 82, of Boise, and formerly of Burley, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013.

She was born on Jan. 17, 1931, in St. George, West Virginia, the daughter of Howard Elmer and Edna May Sayer Nestor. She received her education and graduated from high school in Morgantown, West Virginia. Mary Lou married Lawrence Joseph Stiens on March 10, 1953, in Independence, West Virginia, and they were married for 53 years until his passing.

Mary Lou worked several years at the Cornet Store and Bonanza 88 in Burley, and served as a Pink Lady at Cassia Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Burley First Christian Church and was active in the Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing, however, most important to her was her husband and children. She truly loved taking care of them.

Mary Lou lived her last two years in Boise at a memory care center called The Cottages. They provided love, care and laughter, but, most of all the Cottages gave themselves to mom. Mom loved them and they loved her. She was their “Little Firecracker!” She had the best care. The workers were Mom’s angels on earth!

She is survived by her children, Mark L. Stiens (Cheryl) of Hansen, Idaho, and Pamela S. MacKenzie (George) of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren, Shanna Robbins (Chris), Ben Stiens, Megan MacKenzie, Sean MacKenzie (Kayla), and George MacKenzie III (Neely); five great-grandchildren, Tyler Robbins, Rylee Robbins, Sawyer MacKenzie, Harper MacKenzie, and Ryan MacKenzie; and her siblings, Edward Nestor and Thelma Timmons both of Independence, West Virginia, Branson Nestor (Marie) of Flint, Michigan, and Margie Calvert (Fred) of Gallipolis, Ohio.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be the Rev. John Marshall. Burial will be in Gem Memorial Gardens.
