Wallace Ray Egley

BURLEY – Wallace Ray “Wally” Egley of Burley, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the age of 82.

Wally was born on Feb. 14, 1931, in Paris, Idaho, the son of Herman and Martha Rose Egley. He lived in Paris, Rupert, and Twin Falls all for a short time before settling in Burley at the young age of 12. At this young age, he started farming with the man who raised him as his own, his stepfather, Floyd Lattimer. He attended school in Burley through the 11th grade. At the age of 19, he joined the armed forces serving as a mess hall cook to his fellow brothers in the United States Air Force. After six honorable years of service, he returned home in 1956 to take over the family farm south of Burley.

On Dec. 4, 1960, he married the love of his life, Truth Cecelia James. In 1962, they welcomed their only daughter, Pamela Lou. Only having nine wonderful years together, Truth passed away leaving Wally and his mother to raise Pam.

Farming was one of Wally’s many passions, along with putting tires on any vehicle he could – spending many days, hot or cold, ensuring every vehicle that came to his home was up to his specifications (especially his Cadillacs). He enjoyed watching after the many, many dogs he had throughout his life, listening to Country Western music, and dancing on the weekends.

After retirement in 2004, he could be found drinking coffee at the various gas stations, running farm errands for his dear friend, Leonard Beck, wheeling and dealing on new tires at Tires West, or visiting with his dear family of girls, later gaining his only great-grandson.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Lou Egley of Burley; stepdaughters, Ronnie (Mel) Peterson and Rene (Carlo) Sanchez both of Blackfoot; a stepson, Terry (Cathy) Tracy of Rupert; two granddaughters, Jasmine Sanchez and Rainie Waters both of Burley; two great-granddaughters, Zaira Lizette and Angelina Jazlin; two great-grandsons, Anthony Jayden, and Xadian Rey; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Lattimer; his stepfather, Floyd Lattimer; his wife, Truth Egley; and a sister, Lucille.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Dr. Kevin Owens and the wonderful nursing team at Cassia Regional Medical Center. You all did an amazing job caring for Wally and we are forever grateful.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where friends and family may call from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Powell. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.
