Dorothy Holton
RUPERT – Dorothy Nell Rule Holton, an 89-year-old Rupert resident, died peacefully on February 26, 2017, at Highland Estates in Burley.
Dorothy was born into a family of nine brothers and sisters in Holly, Colorado on April 2, 1927. She moved to Idaho, where she met and married the love of her life, Harold Holton, in 1946. The two lived in Middleton, Idaho until 1959, at which time they were lucky enough to draw a homestead on the north side of Rupert. They made their home in the middle of a sagebrush-land amid the rabbits, coyotes, and cactus. They lived in a chicken coop for a year prior to building their home. Working side-by-side with Harold to establish their home and farm, Dorothy never complained.
As a young woman, Dorothy started working for the JR Simplot Company. She worked her way up to the highest position for a woman to hold at that time, in the Heyburn plant. She always took pride in working hard and putting forth her best effort in all she did – a trait that was important to her to teach and pass down to her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy was a wonderful mother, always offering wise advise. We would sometimes call her the “Preacher” in fun. We will miss her dearly – all the laughs, advice, and teaching that she was more than happy to offer, in her loving way.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Ron Holton (Evelyn) of Rupert, and Sue Holton Berlin (Steve-deceased) of Heyburn. She was preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings; and her son-in-law, Steve Berlin.
The funeral will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where the family will receive friends from 11 until 11:45 a.m.
The family would like to thank Dr. Margo Saunders and Minidoka Home Health for their excellent care of Dorothy.
