Susan Casey Mathrusse
RUPERT– Susan Casey Mathrusse, of Rupert, ID, 59 years old, passed away of lung cancer on June 25, 2013 at Parke View Rehab Center in Burley, ID. Susan was a long-time volunteer with the Minidoka Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and took great pride in being associated with the finest ladies she’s ever known.
Susan was born and grew up in Wethersfield, CT and spent her childhood working with animals in the 4-H Club, and was always adopting stray dogs and raising them to live with others. Susan left Connecticut to settle in California in the mid-‘70s and raised her son John in San Mateo. Susan relocated to Ogden, UT in the mid-80’s to raise her daughter Amy and son Brian in a less-hectic climate.
Susan relocated to Rupert, ID in the mid-90’s to enjoy the quiet, small town feeling Rupert has to offer. She continued to have and care for dogs and was saddened when she was diagnosed and had to leave her companion dog Gypsy with a new family.
Susan leaves her children John Kurkowski, Idaho Falls, ID; Amy Noel Cannon, Roy UT, and Brian Edward Mathrusse, Chicago, IL; her grandchildren Annalynn Cannon, 7, Edrianna Cannon, 6, Lucas Cannon, 5, and Brody Burton 3, her sister Tricia Richards, Redmond, WA. Susan was preceded in death by her parents Lillian J. Casey and Edward J. Casey.
Susan’s ashes will be buried in Chatham, MA to be with her godparents John and Kim Kenyon. A celebration of life service will be held Monday, September 16, 2013, 10:30 am at the First Christian Praise Chapel, 1110 8th St, in Rupert, ID. Donations may be made in Susan’s memory to the Minidoka Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
