Dale L. Baker

CHUBBUCK – Dale Lindsay Baker, born Sept. 29, 1948, in Roy, Utah, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, in American Falls, Idaho, at the age of 64, as a result of a farming accident.

Dale was the first child born to William Evan and Phyllis Jordan Baker. He grew up in a happy family and loved to learn at his father’s hand. He loved helping with the sheep, the farming, and the horses (the milking and feeding maybe not so much). He was a farm boy through and through. Wherever he went, he was always checking out the crops and if in a new area was immensely curious to know all the details of that area’s farming culture.

Dale attended schools in Burley where he and his family moved when he was a tiny boy. We have called other places home, but Burley still holds our heart strings. Dale graduated from Burley High School in 1966 and graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree, and from Utah State University with a master’s degree, both in agricultural economics. He served in the Canada Alberta Mission from 1968-1970 and treasured that experience.

In 1970, Dale married Terry Ann Elzinga in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS Temple. To this union were born six children, Janette (Paul) Pratt of Cooper City, Florida, Laura (Sid) Anderson of Boise, Idaho, Stacey Andrade of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Dale Gregory Baker of Seattle, Wash., Jason William (Haley) Baker of Murray, Utah, and Lindsey Baker of Bountiful, Utah. Terry preceded him in death in 1994. Dale faithfully cared for Terry during her battle with cancer and did his best to keep the family together.

In 1996, Dale married DeAnn Larsen in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. DeAnn brought six children to this union, Brad Allen (Katrina) Bell of Rupert, Idaho, Scot William (Stacie) Bell of Heyburn, Idaho, Todd Bell of Hazleton, Idaho, Shanna (Nick) Kraus of Rupert, Idaho, Lana Hanks of Burley, Idaho, and Brandi (Barrett) Burbidge of Olympia, Wash.

Dale served his community wherever he lived and loved to help others. He was compassionate in his views and dedicated in his service. He was an active member of the LDS Church and has served in various capacities including teacher, clerk, bishop, and at the time of his death was serving as a high councilor in the Pocatello Tyhee Stake, and as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple. He loved the Lord, and served faithfully to the end.

Dale leaves behind 12 children; 27 grandchildren; and his wife, DeAnn. Family was everything to Dale. He loved all 12 of our children and all of the grandchildren. There wasn’t a better grandpa than Grandpa Baker. He will be watching over all of us!

Dale also leaves behind his siblings, Gary (Donna) Baker of Syracuse, Utah, Brent Baker of Eugene, Ore., RoLane (Bob) Poulton of Murtaugh, Idaho, and Stan (Sandy) Baker, and Julie Baker all of Burley, Idaho.

In addition to his first wife, Terry, he was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Phyllis Baker.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Burley LDS West Stake Center, 2420 Parke Ave., in Burley, with Bishop Steve Nielsen officiating. Burial will follow at the View Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
