Mary Koch

BURLEY – Mary June Bishop Jensen Koch, passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, just seven days prior to her 92nd birthday.

She was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on Sept. 16, 1921, to Henry Milo and Sadie Etta (Hawk) Bishop. She was the youngest of five children. Mary graduated from Pocatello High School and studied at St. Anthony Hospital's school of nursing. She graduated first in her class and spent her life working as a registered nurse. She married Philip Alma Jensen on April 30, 1942, and was the mother of three children, Mary Kathleen Lemmon (Doug), Victoria Lee Neiwert (Garry) and Philip Monte Jensen. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and found great joy in her family. She later married Otto Koch.

Mary was a very kind, generous person. She continually gave to anyone in need, never expecting anything in return. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she exemplified Christ-like characteristics her entire life. She took pleasure in the outdoors and enjoyed camping as often as possible. She was an avid pinochle player and, while living in Pocatello, attended card parties with longtime friends. She was a faithful Atlanta Braves fan and loved country music. She enjoyed bowling and bowled weekly on a St. Anthony Hospital league team. She also loved to crochet and made afghans for her children, grandchildren, and anyone else she thought could use one.

Mary was preceded in death by her father; mother; brother, Clarence Bishop (Ruby); and sisters, Enid Pack (Lynn), Revah Carlyle (Herb) and Vola Lindsey (Jim). She had five grandchildren, Kari Euteneier (Kurt), Steve Lemmon (Tamara), Kirk Neiwert (Angie), Heidi Miller (Isaac) and Tory Neiwert. She also was the proud great-grandmother of 15.

The family would like to express their profound gratitude for the staff at Rosetta Assisted Living for their love and care of their mother for the last 5 ½ years. Everyone entering Rosetta loved Mary for her enthusiasm and zest for life.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where friends and family may call from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Paul Cemetery.
