Shirley Price Jolley

BURLEY – Shirley Price Jolley, 89, of Burley, passed away at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley in the early morning of Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, from a sudden illness.

Shirley was born on April 26, 1924, in Oakley, Idaho, to Lucia Claire Hunter and Horace Eugene Price. She was the second of five children. She graduated from Burley High School in 1942. Soon after, she married the love of her life, Frank Dearold Jolley, on July 7, 1942, in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. She always had a strong testimony of the temple and of eternal families. After Frank passed away, she often spoke of being reunited with him in the eternities.

She was a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She knew and loved each of her posterity and was a force of good in their lives. Every year, each child would receive a heartfelt, handwritten birthday card from Grandma Jolley with her signature $2 bill enclosed.

Her heart was in the kitchen. When we weren’t raiding her cookie jar, we were sitting down with her listening to her sing old war tunes and telling us about her many adventures. She was constantly crocheting and doing crosswords. She was an avid reader and was always teaching us new words.

Shirley was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She faithfully served in various callings, including the Relief Society and Young Women president. She was teaching the beehive class when she was 80 years old. She adored seeing her grandchildren serve missions and doing temple work.

She was a perfect example of unwavering faith, prayer, and righteousness to her family and countless others.

She is survived by her five children, Luanne (Bob) Shepherd of Albuquerque, N.M., Nancy (Larry) Plowgian of Salt Lake City, Utah, Reed Jolley of Burley, Patricia (Richard) Ellis of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Julie (Kent) Pincock of Burley; 21 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her two sisters, Sue Sheen and Jo Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; and her two brothers, Larry and Robert Price.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Burley LDS 3rd and 7th Ward Church, 2200 Oakley Ave., in Burley, with Bishop David Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Gem Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 9 until 9:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
