Date of Service: Jan. 3, 2014

Steven L. Port

KIMBERLY – Steven Lynn Port, devoted father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather, went home to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, in Twin Falls, Idaho, after a lingering illness. Steven was a 51 year-old resident of Kimberly, Idaho.

Steven was born March 14, 1962, in Rupert, Idaho. He was the son of DeMar Madsen and Ann Mickelsen Madsen. He was later adopted by Llewellyn "Jack” Port when he and Steve's mom, Ann, married. He was the middle son of five children. Steven attended school in Rupert and Burley.

After he “finally”finished school, he moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where he took some vocational classes. It was here that he met Patsy Moser and lost his heart. They were married July 27, 1985, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union three children were born, Ryan, Alex, and Kilee. He and Patsy purchased their home in Chubbuck, Idaho, and they lived there until, sadly, their marriage ended in divorce.

Steven was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings including in an Elders Quorum presidency, teacher, activities chairman and wherever he was needed. Because of work obligations the past few years, Steven has been less active, but he had not lost his testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Steven has spent his working career as a long-haul truck driver working for Cisco and Reed Hurst Trucking. He even owned his own truck. After his health problems wouldn't permit his driving truck, he moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, and has been employed by Ag Express as a truck dispatcher for the past 13 years.

He has always enjoyed anything to do with the trucking industry. He has served as a past president of the Idaho chapter of the National Trucking Association and served as the chairman of a Memorial Presentation for Garret Freightliners. Steven assembled a large collection of trucking memorabilia. He was adept at building miniature trucks and the dioramas on which to display them. He also had a love of model railroading. He belonged to the Pocatello Railroad Society and the Filer Railroad Club. He enjoyed building and operating miniature railroads in conjunction with his trucks.

Steve also was a very good cook and enjoyed trying new recipes. He loved music and could play piano by ear, a talent he inherited from his father. Most of all, he loved his children. They were the light of his life and he spent as much time with them as possible, sharing adventures. He even loved to get down on his hands and knees to play “truck” with his new grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Ryan (Angie) Port of Pocatello, Idaho, Alex Port, Kilee Port and ex-wife, Patsy Moser of Inkom, Idaho; his mother, Ann and step-father, Wayne Henderson of Burley, Idaho; his brothers, Richard (Anita) Port of Wales, Utah, and Wes Port of Pocatello, Idaho; his sisters, DeAnna (Tim) Martin of Burley, Idaho, and Heidi (Scott) Rogers of Hazelton, Idaho; his step-brothers, Danny (Joan) Port of Michigan, and Kelly (Kathleen) Port of Arizona; his step-sisters, Cindy (Randy) Cahoon and Pam Wharton both of California. He is also survived by Jack and Rhoda Port of Pocatello, Idaho and two grandsons, Zed and Kollin. He was excited to be a grandpa!

Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents, Budge and Ruby Mickelsen, and Melvin and Irene Madsen; his natural father, DeMar Madsen all of Rupert, Idaho; and his brother-in-la, Tim Martin of Burley, Idaho.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at the Unity LDS Church, 275 S. 250 E., of Burley, with Bishop Ron Rice officiating. Burial will be in the Rupert Cemetery.

Friends and family may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
