Richard Bradshaw

BURLEY– Richard George “Dick” Bradshaw, 75, passed away Dec. 26, 2013, at the Ryan House Hospice in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dick was born, July 2, 1938, in Milner, Idaho, to William George and Christine Bradshaw. He grew up in the Milner area along with four brothers and four sisters. Dick graduated from Burley High School in 1956. He then attended Kinman Business University in Spokane, Wash., graduating in 1957. If penmanship counted, he would have graduated at the top of his class. He had the most beautiful handwriting. You could always tell a card was from Dick by the beautiful handwriting on the envelope. Upon his graduation he went to work for the Milwaukee Railroad in their business office in Spokane. From the railroad, Dick went to the air, working for West Coast Airlines in Spokane as a customer service agent. He also traveled for West Coast Airlines and filled in as a temporary agent when help was needed in various locations.

In December 1961, he was drafted into the United States Army, receiving his training at Fort Hood, Texas. He served in the 319th Military Intelligence Battalion until his honorable discharge in 1963. He then went back to work for West Coast Airlines in Twin Falls, Idaho, as a travel agent. Later, he went to work at Air West in Sun Valley, Idaho. From Sun Valley, he went to Magic Carpet Travels in Burley where he managed the Burley agency for the next ten years. In 1978, he and a friend bought the town of Shoup, Idaho. They had a general store, post office, two-pump gas station and a mail route. In 1985, he sold out in Shoup and moved to Phoenix, Ariz. He worked for the City of Phoenix water department, and retired from there several years later. Dick has been with his friend, caregiver, and companion, Allen Vaughn, for 13 years.

Dick is survived by two sisters, Alice Lind, of Boise, and Eleanor Hewlett of Burley; one brother, Harold Bradshaw of Parker, Colo.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, William A., Bernard C., and Vernon Bradshaw; and two sisters, Betty Mahler and Joyce Olson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 902 6th St., in Rupert, with the Rev. Father Rand Fagg officiating. Urn placement will take place at a future date at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.
