Ruth G. Steiner
BURLEY – Ruth Gudrun Guiseppa Brodersen Rasmussen Steiner, age 93, of Burley, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Highland Estates in Burley.
Ruth was born on May 31, 1920, in Fredericia, Vejle, Denmark, to Peter Andreas Vilhelm Brodersen and Else Katrine Christoffersen. Her mother passed away shortly after her birth and she was subsequently adopted and raised by Hans Nikolej and Maren Marie Rasmussen. She was fortunate to have relationships with both her adopted and natural siblings. She was educated in Denmark until the age of fourteen; after which she was apprenticed to a needlepoint shop. She married Ole Raae Hansen in 1939 by whom two children were born – Jeanne and Lis. She later married Bahne Peter Figen. To this union were born two daughters – Merete and Karin. She was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Denmark and was baptized in 1950.
Ruth packed up her life and three of her four children and immigrated to Newton, Utah, in January of 1953. She subsequently relocated to Burley, Idaho, in 1955, where she met a widow, Grandin Amnor Steiner, with seven children – Ila, Luella, Grandin L., Donna, Viola, Jannet, and Collean. The couple married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Sept. 2, 1955, and welcomed an additional daughter, Loretta, to the family the following year. She held many church callings and was the Relief Society president for the Burley 6rd Ward.
Ruth and Grandin ran a successful chicken and egg business from their home and acreage on north Overland Avenue. Ruth had excellent retail and customer service skills and managed several clothing and fabric shops in the Burley/Rupert area. She was an avid quilter and blessed her family with beautiful knit and crochet gifts. She always kept an immaculate home and loved to garden. After she retired, she and Grandin moved to Orem, Utah, and lived with their daughter, Loretta’s family. Grandin passed away there, so Ruth decided to serve a mission for the LDS Church. She was called to the Swedish Temple Mission and served there faithfully from 1995 – 1996. As her health deteriorated, she returned to Burley and resided at Highland Estates until her death.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Grandin Amnor Steiner; by her siblings, Manfred Brodersen, Alf Brodersen, Yrsa Andersen, and Erna Petersen (all in Denmark); her step-parents, Hans Nicolej and Maren Marie Rasmussen; her parents, Else Katrine and Peter Andreas Vilhelm Brodersen; and stepdaughter, Donna Brittsan. She is survived by her children, Jeanne (Ole) Brodersen living in Denmark, Lis Rich of Orem, Utah, Merete (Jack) Mai of Burley, Karin Kellgreen of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Loretta (Randy) King of Pleasant Grove, Utah; her stepchildren, Ila Nielson of American Fork, Utah, Luella Smith of Pocatello, Grandin L. (Otella) Steiner of Burley, Viola (J.C.) Gootee of Bonaire, Ga., Jannet (Art) Studer of Twin Falls, and Collean (Robert) Fullmer, of Las Vegas, NV; 55 grandchildren; and by innumerable great and great-great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly.

The family would like to thank all those who have offered love and support and would like to especially acknowledge the love and care given by the administration and staff of Highland Estates for the past ten years.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Gem Memorial Gardens.
