Maxine Powers
MALTA – Our beloved mother and grandmother, Lucy Maxine Powers, 92, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, surrounded by her family at the Highland Estates in Burley, Idaho. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Almo, Idaho, the daughter of Lucy Bronson and Ernest Jones. She grew up in Almo and Malta, Idaho, where she attended school. She later graduated from Raft River High School. She met Ellis Powers at a dance and the two married Feb. 6, 1941. They were later sealed in the Logan Utah LDS Temple on July 19, 1979.
Maxine was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various callings. She worked as a waitress and sales clerk, but her fondest work was that of a hard working rancher’s wife with her husband, Ellis. She enjoyed showing horses, reading, and spending time with her family. She and Ellis could often be found fishing – which the two enjoyed very much. For many years her family would join the two of them each Memorial Day weekend at the Sublett Reservoir, where fishing was enjoyed, but more often, the family truly enjoyed spending their time gathered together.
She is survived by her daughter, Deanne (John) Kearns of Bountiful, Utah; her son, Jim (Janet) Powers of Malta, Idaho; eight grandchildren; 17 ½ great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ross Jones of Wickenburg, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ellis; her brother, Joseph Jones; two sisters, Etta Taylor and Ruth Wake; and daughter-in-law, Rozann Powers.
A very special thank you to the staff at Highland Estates for their loving care of our mother while she resided in their care. We also wish a heartfelt thank you to Tawny Pirtle from Intermountain Homecare for her special care during Maxine’s final hours on this earth.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Malta LDS Church, 4th Street North in Malta, where friends and family may call from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Valley Vu Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
