Lucille May Webster

May 19, 1926 - Oct. 16, 2017

Date of Service: Oct. 28, 2017

PAUL – Lucille May Webster, 91, of Paul, passed away Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at Twin Falls Center.

Lucille was born May 19, 1926, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the first child born to Louie F. and Josephine Klemp Shafer. She attended Coffin Grade School and graduated from Leavenworth Senior High School in 1943. Following her high school graduation, Lucille worked for the next year at a World War II production factory, then attended Park College in Missouri until 1946. During these years she attended the Kickapoo Methodist Church.

As a result of the teachers’ shortage that followed World War II, Lucille became a teacher at Kickapoo Elementary. She received her Bachelor of Science degree at St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas, in 1949. After receipt of her college degree, she became employed as a home economist on the staff of Kansas State University. She maintained a full schedule and was involved in many extra-curricular activities, such as 4-H, Sunday school teacher and chaperone for teens at the Presbyterian Church, and a Saturday morning educational radio program in Wichita.

In June of 1958, she resigned her appointment and moved to Paul, Idaho. She married Robert Webster on June 27, 1958, in a wedding ceremony at Jerome Presbyterian Church. Robert was also from Kansas (Howard, Kansas). Lucille and Robert transferred their membership to the Paul United Methodist Church and were active in their church and community, including 4-H leadership, Homesteaders Association, and county fair judging. They lived together on the homestead Northwest of Paul that Robert had drawn in 1957, where they raised their children, Tracy and Bart.

Lucille took pleasure working on the farm, was an avid gardener and baker, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, and reading. Robert and Lucille looked forward to the annual trips to Kansas so the children could become acquainted with their relatives. Additionally, they enjoyed traveling to our nation’s national parks, attending Army Air Corps reunions, and also visited Australia, New Zealand, and Central America, among other destinations. After more than 48 years of marriage, she parted with her dear Robert, who passed away Feb. 4, 2007.

Lucille is survived by her daughter, Tracy Webster-Babcock and her husband, William Babcock of Moultonborough, New Hampshire; and their children, Stuart Babcock of Boston, Mass., and Ashley Babcock of Portland, Maine; Lucille’s son, Bart J. Webster and his wife, Laurie; and their children, Dillon J. Webster of Paul, and Tedi K. Webster, wife of Misty Maxwell, of Filer; and one brother, George L. Shafer of Kansas.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Paul United Methodist Church, 127 W. Clark St., with the Rev. David Madden officiating. Burial will follow at Paul Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, preceding the funeral service at the church.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to Paul United Methodist Church and/or the Alzheimer’s Association.
