Albert Thomas Klink Jr.

BURLEY - The community of Burley, Idaho, has said farewell to one of their most beloved florists. In 1946, Albert Thomas Klink Jr. joined his family business with his father, at Klink’s Florists, and later in 1973, Albert formed a partnership with his son, David. He worked in the floral business for 55 years. On Wednesday, June 30, 2014, he passed away while tending to the flowers in his yard at age 90.

Albert was born on Jan. 16, 1924, in Burley, Idaho, the son of Albert Thomas Klink Sr. and Elsie Garner Klink. A jack of all trades, Albert has accomplished many feats throughout his lifetime. In 1942, Albert achieved the state record in the ½ mile. For a time he ventured to northern Idaho as part of the Blisterrust project doing work projects with his lifetime friend, Keith Poulton. He then attended Idaho State University, where he enlisted into the United States Army Air Corp in 1942. He served as a waist gunner on a B-17 during World War II serving in 35 missions over eastern Europe and southern Germany. On Aug. 8, 1948, Albert married Martha Trout to become his best friend and lifelong partner.

Albert was well-known in his community as a member of the Free Masons, the Elks, Eastern Star and the Methodist Church. He also served on the Cassia County School Board. In 1992, Albert was honored by receiving the Mini-Cassia Businessman of the Year Award. His time and love was also spent visiting the local convalescent homes in his community. His warm smile and caring heart lifted the spirits of many, giving a new meaning to neighborly care and love.

Albert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha Klink; his four children, David (Kini) Klink, Gayle Martens, John (Sondra) Klink, and Marilee (Phil) Kniep; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janece Thornton; and one granddaughter, Autumn Sutton.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the United Methodist Church, 450 E. 27th St., in Burley, where friends may call from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley, with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.

May his passion in Christ and the beauty of flowers prosper through each petal blooming to form the flowers he cherished in each of his displays.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
