BURLEY - Bernard Eugene Scott, 86, of Burley, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at his home.

Bernard was born July 20, 1928 to Arlie K. Scott and Dorothy G. Hardy Scott in Kearny, Neb.

Bernard moved with his family to Idaho in September 1940, pursuing a life in agriculture. The family settled in the Pocatello, Idaho area, and Bernard graduated from Pocatello High School in 1947. In 1950, Bernard met Jeanne Nelson from Heyburn, Idaho. They married in December of 1951. Bernard and Jeanne had two children, Marsha and Jerry, who have both preceded them in death. Bernard and Jeanne moved to Heyburn in 1955 to work with Jeanne’s parents and later purchased Jeanne’s parent’s farm, continuing their life in agriculture.

Bernard was involved in the agricultural community where he served on the board of directors of the Minidoka Soil and Water Conservation Service, Minidoka Weed Board, and the Minidoka Lamb and Wool Board. Mr. Scott also served on the Minidoka Pamona Grange as master, Emerson Grange as master, and in other grange offices. Bernard was executive director of the Idaho State Grange, and director and president of Bean Growers. Bernard served for over 60 years as a Mason, holding several positions within the lodge.

Bernard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanne; his sister, Virginia Jean (David) Crockett; granddaughters, Angela (Hayden) and Dawn; four great granddaughters, Amanda, Jerry (Pete), Nancy and Melodie; one great-great-granddaughter, Andrea; and one great-great-grandson, Landon.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Idaho Youth Ranch or the 4-H camp.

The family would like to thank the team at Intermountain Homecare, with a special thanks to Tawny Pirtle and Mario Amescua.

We would also like to offer thanks to Lisa Funk for all of her love and support to Bernard, and to Jerilyn Maughan who made him laugh; and all the many others who visited and called, which he so appreciated.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 in the Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn with the Rev. D. Scott Allen officiating. Masonic rites will be provided by the Paul Masonic Lodge No. 77.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
