Grant M. Wyatt
BURLEY - Grant M. Wyatt was born on Feb. 24, 1928, in Wellsville, Utah, to Irvin Syme and Isabell Parker Maughan Wyatt. He passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley, Idaho, at the age of 86.
When Grant was two years old, he moved with his family from Wellsville, Utah, to Idaho. Grant lived the remainder of his life in Burley. He graduated from Burley High School in 1948, and then continued his education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and Utah State University in Logan, Utah. He married his eternal companion, Iva Jean Schoonover, in 1950.
Grant worked for the John Deere Company and as a committee member at the ASC Office prior to farming with Denzil “Dan” Satterwhite, beginning in 1952. Even after Dan moved to Oregon, Grant continued to farm in the Pella area.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a Boy Scout leader for much of his younger life. He enjoyed trips all over the Western United States with the scouts. At the same time, he continued to work for the ASC Office and served as the Farm Bureau president for Cassia County. He was called as the Oakley Idaho Stake president in November of 1971, and was released from that position in 1981. In 1986, Grant was called as the stake patriarch and served for 27 years in the Oakley Stake.
Grant, along with Garr Wayment, started the Southwest Irrigation District that benefitted farmers in the Cassia County and Murtaugh areas. At the time of his death, he was still working on water issues for the area.
In spite of his involvement with his church assignments and community service, he still found time for his family. He loved to travel with his wife and ski with his children. As much as he loved to “go,” he always liked to come home to Idaho and the Pella area.
Grant is survived by his wife of 64 years, Iva Schoonover Wyatt of Burley; his children, Reed Arron (Julie) Wyatt, Clay Irvin (Norma) Wyatt, Marla Jean Wyatt, and Kelly Grant (Karen) Wyatt all of Burley, Eric John (Marchelle) Wyatt of Kaysville, Utah, and Nancy (Jared) Ferree of Clinton, Utah; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Margaret Ann (Marvin) Miller of Rolling Hills, Calif., Lynn (Rosanne) Wyatt of Toole, Utah, and Neal (Kenna) Wyatt of Burley; a brother-in-law, Donald Gillespie; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mark Andrew Wyatt; a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Doris Wyatt; one grandson, Clayton Grant Wyatt; and a sister-in-law, Ila Schoonover Gillespie.
Grant will be remembered and missed by those who knew, respected, and loved him.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Pella LDS Church, 160 W. 400 S., of Burley, with Bishop Dee L. Seamons officiating. Burial will be in the Pella Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
