HEYBURN - Benita Garcia Gomez, 92, of Heyburn, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at her home.
She was born on March 21, 1922, in Ibarra, Guanajuato, Mexico, the daughter of Sotero and Rosenda Zermeño Garcia. She was the wife of Graciano Palomares Gomez. They lived in Texas and California prior to moving to Heyburn in 1970 where she had since resided. She worked for several years at the J.R. Simplot Company. However, she was privileged to be homemaker for the majority of her life. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and was admired for her beautiful homemade quilts.
Benita is survived by her children, Mary Mondragon (George), Joe R. Gomez (Isidra), Rachel Garza (Tony), Lupe Perez (Alex), Armando Gomez (Herminia), Angel Garcia (Juan), Janie Naranjo, Norma Gomez (Ruben), Graciano Gomez Jr., Jose A. Gomez (Lilly), Yolanda Lopez (Gilbert), Robert Gomez (Cande), Maria Fairchild (Rodney), and Jessica Nakamura (Neil); 49 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister; a son-in-law; one grandchild; and one great-grandchildren.
A vigil service will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, with the recitation of the rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at the St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 1601 Oakley Ave., in Burley.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, also at the St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Julio Vincente as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Dr. James Spackman and his staff, Intermountain Homecare, and Cassia Regional Medical Center for the outstanding care given to our mother.
